Town v Hull as i seen it!!!

Post by loudnproud » Sun Mar 26, 2006 4:03 am

As a fellow supporter rang in to Radio Suffolk and said.."starting with 1 up front (Lee) at home is negative football". Well i have to agree with that statement. Hull are a big side, strong 6ft plus players all over the pitch,If we were going to get anything from this game,we had to out play them with our passing game.
Lee up front was doing ok on his own and holding the ball up quite well. Our support play from the middle were not quick enough to keep up in support. A floating cross provided by Currie on our left side from a free kick, fooled everyone in the Hull 18 yard area, bouncing in beyond the keepers left hand into the net. The first reaction of the supporters was one of,"we've scored!!!Yeaaaa!!
Town had plenty of chances to kill the game off, hitting the woodwork twice and good saves from the Hull keeper along with clearences off the line. However soon after taking the lead,Town eased off the play and allowed Hull to get back into it by being 1st to the loose ball,s in mid-field.Loosing Westy for a cumbersome challenge that should of bought a card out by the ref but failed to do so,was a blow for our mid-field,as i felt that westy's contribution was getting better and he was our ball winner.
It took several, stern, strong challenges before the referee found his yellow cards,This supporter believing he had left them behind in the dressing room!!
On for westy came mini-mac,Playing just behind Lee slightly to the left.He was slow getting into the game. His build ment that he was shunted out as soon as he got the ball,on the occasions that he ran at the Hull defence, his final pass or shot on goal was either weak or failed to hit the target.I was expecting more from a player that is playing to win a contract.
The Hull goal came from a good cross that to be honnest was noware near Fabian,The Hull frontman dwarfting fabian's attempt at a challenge with the ball sailing past the left sided dive of Supple.
Majic magilton was running the show in our midfield. He provided the simple pass and was spreading the ball wisely.Taking him off in replacement for the improving Haynes was an expected move,Though we lost our way in the middle,we now had some pace up front to assist Lee.
The last 10 mins of the game was an all out assault on the hull goal.Mini-mac having the better chance squandered in front of goal. Lots of if's and but's in this game,The simple truth of the matter is that 1 up front at home is not good. The way the results were comming in yesterday,If we had got the 3 points,we were right back in it again.
BFJ may argue that Lee was our only fit striker and that Haynes,Mcdonald and knights are simply not ready for 90 mins. I can accept the 90 mins bit Joe but why not give them a half each with lee? Only a thought Joe!
Matt Richards was not at his best, his passing was short and he was caught in possession too much in dangerous positions. Scott Barron picked up an injury and was replaced by the highly rated Casement playing at right back swapping over with Sito who also had a solid game.
De-vos wins this supporters man of the match,Though he lacks pace, his commanding at the rear is good, for the last 10 mins or so he even played up front with lee adding some height to the attack!!
Just a tad under 24000 was the crowd, Radio Suffolk were making a big point of how quiet we were during the match.I confess to being one of the 1st to kick a song off in the upper north. I was lithargic in voice not being spured on by what i was watching. Its a catch 22 situation.....We sing when we get excited by good play. This supporter remembers the days when the "Churchmans" and the "North Stand" had banter.
Enjoy your season and hope to see you awl at Luton Town next week! For those of you that have never been to Luton.....Boy are you in for a surprise!!!

LOL - hard to believe that now ain't it riv - considering how far apart they both are financially!!!

Think LNP was making the point that you will be in for a shock when you see just what a dump kenilworth road is. What strikes me as strange is that for the past 16 years or more they have been trying to get a new stadium developed somewhere??? Well either you are getting a new ground or you ain't??

At this stage of the season without nothing really to play for then we should be playing the likes of Haynes and Mini-mac for at least half a game. We may only have Lee as our fit recognised striker - but we should still be playing with 2 up front. No one is questioning ROyle - but it is hard to be as attack minded with only one man up front - and now is the time to bed in these youngsters for next season!!!!
