Health & Safety At Football Grounds

Post by Shed on tour » Sun Apr 02, 2006 4:36 am

Well how they ever managed to get a safety certificate for the disabled section at Kenilworth Road I will never know.
I have been to many football grounds all over Europe (including Scottish 3rd division grounds) but have never come across an entrance for the disabled like I did yesterday. From the turnstile entrance there was a very steep uneven slope and it took 2 people to hold onto the wheelchairs to get down to the disabled section. It was even worse when coming up as there was a green carpet at the beginning of the slope which was slightly damp and therefore the carer pushing the chair couldn't grip on the carpet.
Talk about an accident waiting to happen (the stewards were supposed to help but buggered off as soon as the final whistle went).

I said yesturday that the ground was unsafe, if there had been a fire in the away stand there is no way all the fans would be out that stand in quick time, there were very few exits at the back and at the front there were very few steps up to th pitch. Right at the front the drop from picth to the stand was about 4 ft then with advertising boards your talking 5 ft I know I'd strugle to climb over that and Im 6ft1.

Shed !...I think you should send this as an email to the likes of Sheep AND Luton Town FC. I'd be amazed if they hadnt had previous comments from other Club's supporters !

and I satnd by other post - Clubs with facilities of the standard witnessed at Luton should NOT be allowed to play in this league.

One wonders what the grounds at Col Utd and Sarfend are going to be like ????

yep i agree email Luton Town FC and complain, it probably wont make any difference but its worth a try, they seem to have spent money on players contracts instead of bringing the ground up to date, although having said that i do like the "old" style grounds like Luton, id rather go there than st marys, at least at PR we still have a bit of character left in the place

as for saffffend hallam, i wouldnt worry, was there a couple of seasons ago, the away end is fine, and has some cracking boozers near by

I was watching them lift a man from a wheelchair over the barrier to where the Luton disabled section was. Then they had to support him while they lifted his wheelchair over. That was just along from where you were Shed. It was a disgrace.

Yeah riv is right - the saarfend ground isn't too bad - remember it was only a few years ago they were mixing it up in this division anyway. Away stand is fairly accessible, and generally speaking the whole ground has a bit of character too which is good.
