Joe Royle left Home Park angry and disappointed with the performance from his players in the defeat at Plymouth but is confident there will be a big improvement in the team's form next season.
Nicky Forster gave Blues a great start with a header on 12 minutes but the Pilgrims were much the better side from then on and goals from Tony Capaldi and Micky Evans gave them a deserved 2-1 win, leaving Town with a 15th place finish in the table.
"I have no complaints over the scoreline. They were better than us on the day," admitted Joe.
"We were physically weak in certain areas of the park because of the team we had to field. We missed Alan Lee's strength and Fabian Wilnis is our best full-back at stopping crosses coming in.
"Richard Naylor took a knock early on to his head and I think was slightly concussed and that didn't help us because we didn't defend well and gave away too bad goals.
"In a way that game has been indicative of our season, too many bad goals given away and too many players missing.
"We were missing players but I'm angry about the performance. A lot of people have travelled a long way to see a weak display and we have to be a lot better than that next season.
"We'll need a big improvement but I'm confident when we start again next year, with a full compliment of players, we'll be a match for anyone in this division."
Joe did have words of praise for one Town player though, adding: "Shane Supple was outstanding for us.
"His save from Micky Evans when one on one was first class but it didn't surprise me. He's so fast across the ground in those situations and gets in the right place at the right time to make the save."

agreed Luke they do have a "sameness" about them week after week (much like those of Worthy , actually ).Luke wrote:I personaly dont mind about the bad result...
But is it just me who is getting fed up of Joe Royles interviews ?
But (and Im not "defending" JR here)...the situation regarding which players are available to him to pick from has remained by and large the same througout the season. He's never had a settled side , due solely to the chronic injury list. And the players he has been "forced" to use ,ie the younger element, have either been thrust in at the deep end - before they are ready , or that the cannot perform to the required level week in / out. Also those hat have been regulars in the side (Currie only I believe) - have found the level of demand to "carry " the younger inexperinced players, at times too much. It's easy to perform in a confident , winning side - but as many of you players that play any sport - it's a lot tougher when the team isnt "gelling" or is lacking in confidence .
Joe Royle must feel as frustrated as us - but what else could he do in all honesty , with the hand he has been dealt this season and no money with which to change things ?

Me too!....especially the "apart from the 2 goals, our keeper didnt have a save to make" line he always comes out with....and the constant moaning about referees and injuries....i wish he'd actually admit occasionally that he's put the wrong team outLuke wrote:But is it just me who is getting fed up of Joe Royles interviews ?

Point taken ...but just as a matter of interest - what other team could he have put out today ?Rach wrote:Me too!....especially the "apart from the 2 goals, our keeper didnt have a save to make" line he always comes out with....and the constant moaning about referees and injuries....i wish he'd actually admit occasionally that he's put the wrong team outLuke wrote:But is it just me who is getting fed up of Joe Royles interviews ?

Stop defending the same tired b"#¤%hit excuses hallam,I love your impartiality and reason but just how many times shall we read another headline like Joes fuming or Royle demands more effort etc, etc, etc.
There is very little I agree with rossi about but maybe he has a point about royle.
The problems with injuries, admin, etc, etc but the last three years we have let in nearly 190 goals.....whats your excuse for that BFJ.

I didnt really mean today....im thinking back to games like Millwall at home when we were still in with a decent chance of getting into the playoffs and he leaves Haynes on the bench and puts Currie as AM to play with Lee....its those sorts of decisions which get me.....but I agree about today, there was no other choice of teamhallamblue wrote:Point taken ...but just as a matter of interest - what other team could he have put out today ?Rach wrote:Me too!....especially the "apart from the 2 goals, our keeper didnt have a save to make" line he always comes out with....and the constant moaning about referees and injuries....i wish he'd actually admit occasionally that he's put the wrong team outLuke wrote:But is it just me who is getting fed up of Joe Royles interviews ?

But with ref to JR I do think he's done the best he can under the circumstances - it my not be "good enough" and the "facts" dont lie - we cant defend for toffees. His mandate for this close season is to get some decent defenders in for next season.
But Rome wasnt built in a day and at the end of last season we lost three players that accounted for over 50 of our goals.(which "masked our inefficeinecies in defence).
Whilst we had players that could bang 'em in Joe wasnt worried that we couldnt keep 'em out - and his view was "if they score three - we'll score four" - not that this laid easy with me , or a great deal of other fans.
So the way I see it (last season) Joe's prority, was to get in players to plug the gap up front. Messrs Forster and Parkin joined us - but both got injured long term (not Royles fault ).. it's not rocket science that a lack of goals ensued this season. and the inefficiencies at the bcak became more apparent !
On the basis that when all strikers are fit his "priority for next season would be to now to plug the gaps at the back and get another midfielder.
He was never going to re-build the whole team in one / two seasons...and that was assumoing he actaully had some money to spend !
