Jacob Greaves being valued at 20-mil! Bloody hell, at this rate we’ll be luck to bring in three quality players!

Agree this seems alot of money, would be a risk.
I’d guess the club know what they are doing and if all these other clubs want him then he must be good - sporting etc wouldn’t spend so much on him if he wasn’t that good as they’d also be looking to sell for profit in the future.

I’m probably wrong, but I’m beginning to think we should focus on lower tiered, outstanding players and then let Kieran do his magic. We all want to survive the Prem, but in my opinion we shouldn’t break the bank on over-valued players who could get injured or fail to impress.
How does everyone else feel? Am I just being frugal?

I'd rather spend 20 million on Greaves than the Greek guy.

I agree that we need to invest in our defence, but that’s too much. We also need another quality midfielder. The money will probably be spent mostly on a striker, but I want a player who wants to play for Ipswich. Also, maybe we should keep Al Hamadi around.

I don’t think we should be looking at any player from a lower tier than The Championship, in my opinion that would be a complete waste of money and way too risky.
If we could acquire Jacob Greaves from Hull City and Joe Rodon from Tottenham for a combined fee of less than £30m that would be shrewd business and not too risky.
Unfortunately I’m beginning to think £80m will more likely be the minimum we’re going to need to spend to strengthen the squad not a maximum. Just remember on top of the fee we have to pay comes huge wages.

Cabanas Blue wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 1:37 pmChampionship new boys Oxford United are reported to be interested in signing Blues striker Ali Al-Hamadi on loan.
Al-Hamadi joined Town from AFC Wimbledon in January and scored four goals as he helped the Blues win promotion back to the Premier League, making one start and 13 sub appearances.
Town may well look to send the 22-year-old out on loan to gain first team experience in the season ahead and, according to Indonesian website BolaSport, Oxford United, one of whose co-owners, Erick Thohir, is Indonesian, are keen.
Oxford, who have former Blues Greg Leigh and Kyle Edwards in their squad, are back in the Championship having won promotion via the play-offs.
I think it would be a good move for him.
I’d be happy to Al-Hamadi go out on loan. I think he was bought as an investment for the future and just in case we failed to secure promotion. I just don’t see him as anywhere near ready for the Premier League which would mean putting his development on hold if he stays.
Best for club and player to find him a good season long loan.

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
A much better performance from Scotland tonight with a 1-1 draw v Switzerland. At least they go into the final game still alive and with a chance of qualifying. If The Swiss lose against Germany and Scotland win comfortably against Hungary they should still qualify as one of the best teams finishing third.
Come on Scotland

It’s just Steve Bruce saying he is valued at 20m…..
I’m sure Hull will want as much as possible but depends what bids they get, I’d expect max 15m would be plenty.

Really not trying to provoke an argument or be pedantic, but what has this got to do with New Signings for Town? Should it not be in the Euro thread?Charnwood wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 9:57 pmA much better performance from Scotland tonight with a 1-1 draw v Switzerland. Yes, think it was just a mistake by Charnwood…… posted Euro stuff in transfers……. Easily done when posts are stuck at the top.rossi wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 9:22 amReally not trying to provoke an argument or be pedantic, but what has this got to do with New Signings for Town? Would move but I do not know how……. maybe Frosty, Mike or indeed Charnwood himself could shift it over.

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
I don’t think lower tiered players are a waste of money if we recruit the right ones. Tyrone Mings comes to mind. I’m not saying all of our acquisitions should be in that category, but there are a few quality CBs in league one. Also, there are a few young players in the Dutch and German leagues who could step up. Yes it’s a risk, but I’m confident MA/KM could identify players with potential. We’ll definitely have to spend some money for a striker and quality midfielder, but I think there are other options for defence.Charnwood wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 9:34 pmITFC2024 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 7:58 pmI’m probably wrong, but I’m beginning to think we should focus on lower tiered, outstanding players and then let Kieran do his magic. Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
Interesting. I do suspect the recruitment team is very. Ish looking at many players. Maybe this year fees will have to come down a bit as clubs don’t have the money they had before - ie now more have FFP concerns. Suspect selling clubs are holding out expecting fees like before but they may not get it, so might take a bit of time for the Penny to drop?
I also guess not many clubs have made signings as its early days in the market and the euros might have a slightly effect.

Other than that striker, we seem to be linked primarily with defenders dont we. Thank God!Bluemike wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 5:41 amLinked with another defender, Jayden Oosterwolde.

We've all seen this right?

It should fill us with some confidence and backup the option 3 opinion as some upgrades will be needed but no change in playing style expected.

If these rumours about the offer we have made for this guy are true I certainly wouldn’t want us to get involved in a bidding war for him. Tbh the amount quoted seems to be a risk unless it is made up of several add on’s. Still wouldn’t be surprised to see us bring in somebody who hasn’t even been mentioned yet.hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 11:10 amUpdate: on striker

Don’t you think this has a big whiff of the player’s agent trying to drum up a bidding war though? Why “ un named PL club”? When Every other club interested has been named….Shed on tour wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 11:42 amIf these rumours about the offer we have made for this guy are true I certainly wouldn’t want us to get involved in a bidding war for him. Either the player’s agent or the club themselves trying to keep upping the asking price. As I’ve said I just hope we walk away.hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 9:39 pmDon’t you think this has a big whiff of the player’s agent trying to drum up a bidding war though? Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
Ben Johnson. Yes for me, not a bad player and a free.
Sanchez is a shock if true. Not totally against it as he is very experienced and probably a good senior pro, but I’d worry about his age and ‘mileage’ - has played a lot of football. He was terrible at Utd - but maybe alot of players have been when at that club.
Had a good goal ratio at Marseille - not so good at inter.
Might add to the dressing room, and if a free and only a year maybe worth a punt.

Yes Ben Johnson on a free would be a shrewd bit of business. Fingers crossed on that one. I’ve always liked Alexis Sanchez, but he does have a lot of miles. I do think we could use a veteran like him to our advantage…certainly not as 90min player but someone to come in late in games.

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
At the moment all we’re hearing is rumours nothing concrete. TBH I’ll feel a lot better when we get our first experienced player signed up and in the bag which should give an indication of which ball park we’re shopping in.
I think next week had the most votes for when we were expecting our first signing, let’s hope by this time bd t week we know who it is.
There are a few we’ve been linked with that I’d be very happy with but knowing McKenna & Ashton our first signing will probably come as a complete surprise to us all

Yes suspect it could be a new name, but I’d also say let’s reserve judgement as we may sign a few different types (some ‘premium’, some from the champ and some free’s, plus some from abroad). The order will be random.
I think we are all a bit twitchy as now the fixtures are out it’s feeling that bit more real.
However very few clubs have done any noteworthy business yet, so it’s early days.
I also feel we have a lot of competition so that’ll slow things down as players assess their options.
