Redknapp eyes Saints duo ...

Post by Bluebird » Tue Dec 13, 2005 6:05 am

Harry Redknapp is hoping to return to Southampton for midfielder Nigel Quashie and coach Kevin Bond - both of whom he took from Portsmouth when he left the club for their neighbours a year ago.

The new Pompey boss has signed a confidentiality agreement with Saints chairman Rupert Lowe after walking out a week last Friday to return to Fratton Park for a second spell in charge, but reveals there is nothing preventing him from signing up their staff.

Redknapp said: "People keep asking me if I am going to take Kevin back. I would like to bring him here to Portsmouth again but I'm not clear about his situation at Southampton now. He is still there as far as I can see, but if he became available then I would like to take him.

"I've still got Joe Jordan as a coach and I want to keep Joe so we are okay, but Southampton are just another club and there's nothing about me not employing people from there.

"Nigel Quashie I would take any day of the week. I think he's a fantastic player and that's why I moved a lot of things to take him with me to St Mary's in the first place.

"But I can't honestly see them letting me have him back."

Quashie cost £2.1m when Redknapp signed him for the Saints in January this year.

Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric is believed to have promised him a £5m budget for the next January sales in which he intends to sign at least four new players.

Bond has fallen out with Southampton's caretaker-manager Dave Bassett and was sent home last week by chairman Lowe.

The club will not comment on whether he has returned to work but he was not visible on the touchline at yesterday's 1-0 home win over Luton.
Unbelievable stuff!

Makes you wonder why they dont just merge the 2 clubs, its becoming a joke!

Can you imagine this happening between Ipswich and Norwich... we'd be going mental!
