Worthington says "Believe me"

Post by Bluebird » Sun Jan 08, 2006 10:17 am

Norwich City manager Nigel Worthington insists there was nothing sinister behind his decision to leave Dean Ashton out of the squad for the FA Cup defeat to West Ham.

A number of Premiership sides are trailing the former Crewe Alexandra striker and his absence means he is not cup-tied in the competition.

The official word is that Ashton is suffering from a groin strain and there is no guarantee that he will be sold this month.

"I can't stop the speculation," complained Worthington.

"But the truth is that Dean Ashton has a groin injury - and we have the medical scans to prove it, which show the damage in the groin area."

The Canaries missed their leading scorer as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat to The Hammers.

Wigan Athletic, Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic are among the clubs trailing the classy hit-man.
He also went on to add, that he has the full support of the board and the supporters, both famlies are right behind him!

They inspected Ashton's groin. That would be enough to make anyone leave....I wouldn't let any budgie physio or anything touch my groin
