Forster still struggling

Post by Dazza » Wed Jan 11, 2006 1:33 pm

Ipswich Town striker Nicky Forster has suffered a further reaction following a knee cartilage operation last August.

The 32-year-old is to have a scan and misses out on Saturday's home Championship match against Sheffield United.

New signing Alan Lee will make his debut against the Blades and Dean Bowditch could push Danny Haynes and Dean McDonald to be his strike partner. Bowditch trained yesterday after injury.

Looking ahead to Saturday's match, Royle said: "Sheffield United are rightfully in second place in the Championship.

"They will be a very hard nut to crack, and our fans can play their part. They always rise to the occasion against Neil Warnock's side - and I am banking on that again this weekend.

"There has been a big improvement in our squad since the start of the season. I can see the progress we are making and now we want to give evidence of that on the pitch."

Spoke to a Reading fan about him yesterday, told me not to expect him to bang in the goals, he's injury prone and he expects him to play for 1/3 of the season.

GREAT

So the best striker partnership for Saturday would be Lee - McDonald. And Haynes on the bench.

Lee/Haynes, Mini Mac on the bench, methinks.

I saw Mini Mac at Stoke. He was impressive, hungry to play and very quick.

I have been looking forward to Lee / Haynes since I heard we are looking at Lee. If we can't agree between Haynes & Mini Mac then we are fortunate indeed and perhaps we can look forward to Mini coming off the bench to scare the crap out of their creaky defence for the last quarter

Pssssst. Did somebody say Bowditch ? Nah ....... keep him injury free mate.

About time Clubs started realising that perhaps they
should be considering an age limit for brining players in when
full signings are made.

Older players will allways be more prone to this type of
on/off injuries as they become older.

I also have a question which I dont know the answer to and wondered
if anyone else does.

When players have these injuries and go to specialists. Does that
cost the club more money????

Or is there some sort of insurance that covers that.

The reason for my question is, OK we pay a physio here, but sometimes
players have to go to specialists who are not cheap and as at this
moment we have long term injuries to various players doe this
cost ITFC more money above thier already tight budget.

I am just interested

Insurance covers it earl, i know for a fact that torquay united are covered for any injuries and treatment that comes with it

although, i would imagine the premium we're paying will be going up quite a bit next season at this rate lol

I believe players are insured for this sort of thing, also covers wages or part of them, well that's what I have been lead to believe in the past

Thanks for that Riv. I actually thought that was the
answer but really did not know.

I would imagine with the age of the players ITFC must
be top of the league for the premium they must be paying..

cheers

On the subject of specialists...Ive always wondered why it takes the club so long to send a plyer to see one?

Surely the injury time for Fozzy and Proudlock could be reduced if they were sent to see a specialist as soon as poss....as then they could have the op if needed and work their way back up to fitness. Proudlock has been struggling for months....and it shouldve been sorted ages ago.

The situation with Fozzy is stupid...Im not blaming him as these things are often bad luck, but why is it he is so prone to these lengthy injuries? Im guessing if he does need surgery again, that'll put him out for the remainder of the season....

The other question I have is why we offered Forster a 2 year deal (I think this is right) when we already knew about the injury problems he had at Reading?
The same with Proudlock, for the life of me I cannot see what he had done to be offered a deal to the end of season. Surely we could have kept him on a monthly basis. What odds Lee getting injured on saturday?

I would suggest the answer is, Forster is clearly someone with a talent that is a cut above what we could normally afford.

I think in the game, its generally agreed, if Forster hadn't had the injury issues he's had over the last 3 years, he'd be playing in the Premiership now.
So we paid out, on the understand the risk was acceptable given the potential benefits IF the injury issues really were over. Clearly they weren't.

Mind u, the few goals he's got us have saved us a few points, and without him I think we'd be in an even more bleak situation.
