Playoffs

Post by Riviera » Sun Feb 05, 2006 4:51 pm

a realistic chance after today or not?

10 points away, but our goal difference is terrible, what do u guys think?

personally i cant see us doing it, its possible but we're not consistant enough IMHO

either way if we get Juan signed up and a few of the other young players i can see us having a real good go next season

I think it is too big an ask for this season Riv....but next season I think we could be challenging for automatic promotion if we can push on and finish in the top half.

Funny you should ask,

In a quiet moment of reflection when glancing at the table after todays game it struck me that WHEN we beat Burnley next week we will go above them in the table.

This would be the same Burnley that many folks have said would be a good outside bet to be in the play-offs (could sneek in, dark horse etc) - so what would that make us?

I see it as a bit of a long shot, but win next week, give Crewe a good going over and I believe we have a chance.

All we need is a good run, just look at Crystal Palace when they went up.
Anything is possible...

as things stand the games against, Watford, Preston and Stoke are stupidly important we can only really afford no more then 3 defeats from our remaining games and if they happen in those three games we could be in trouble.

but yes we can make the play-offs, ive been saying that all season

No. We should just focus on building and consolidating to finally put this play-off bullshit to bed, and win the league outright next season.

Are you saying dont go for it then ? Surely the best way to prepare for next seaosn would be to win all our remaining games, if we scrape into the playoffs, great we will have the best run of form going into them, if not we will have a great end to the season, confidence to be brought forward to 06/07 and a great young team who have gelled together.

Play for the play offs

Post by Saxon52 » Mon Feb 06, 2006 6:19 pm

on the strength of the play and determination Yesterday - its just possible. How many times have we seen a mid-table press end with an in form team coming into the play-offs?

I agree with Squiz.. The basis of team building is consistency. If
we are consistant and can win most of our remaining games,
then the building process will be accomplished as well as
a possibility of reaching the play-offs..

Its gonna be tough of course it is but in my own humble opinion
there is no reason why we should not try.. There will come a time
when it may be impossible to reach them, subject to results,
but that would not be a reason to not try our level best.

I'm not sure if the best preparation for next season is to keep winning. Consider the following;

a. While we still have a chance to getting into the play offs of course there is no question of not going for it. But this means putting out the best team every week.
b. Our best team is starting to come together but still as a squad we are vulnerable to injuries and other misfortunes.
c. I personally think we should have our sights on next season and make sure that we bring through more squad depth. This means getting Parkin into the system and perhaps Casement to add depth at CB.
d. If we don't start next season with a squad with good proven depth then we will not be champions.
e. For what its worth I actually think JR HAS got his sights on next season and will work on adding depth by giving experience this season. But of course he will never say so since the players have to keep up 100% effort and you never know maybe he can achieve both .......

I think given the points situation, we can't afford to drop more than 6-8 points for the rest of the season. That's going to be very, very difficult.

Wouldn't it be fantastic though if we achieved that? Ever the optimist me :D

Depends how long we can keep this good run going. If we do and other teams slip up then yeah we have a chance. If we don't but we keep our team together and not sell the youngesters for sod all then we have a great chance of getting automatic promotion

But the most important thing we must do is keep the youngesters and give Jimmy Juan a contact.

all i want is for us to keep the momentum going and keep getting results.

we shouldn't be asking about the play-off's in my opinion,as soon as this starts it adds pressure to the games and expectations grow far to high.

i'm not saying we can't make it i'm saying we have lost alot of ground and that we have to be realistic and be grateful we are playing well at the moment because it could have been easly be alot worse,as this is not the case anymore lets just enjoy the remaining games and see what position we are i towards the end....then if we are up there with a shout,THEN PILE THE PRESSURE ON EM,LOL

Now we have this extra investment maybe we can. We also need to secure the services of Richards and Barron and maybe extend Haynes' contract.

Didn't Haynes only just sign? Surely we got a minimum of 3 years?

Richards and Juan has to be a priority, I'm not altogether sure about Barron as yet.

Haynes has signed a longer contract.

Barron I think has done enough in the 4 games he has played to warrant a contract extension, but leave it until the end of the season so he doesn't get complacent.

Richards and Juan are a absolute priority.

I think we should put something to the club saying, unless these two sign longer contracts we won't buy season tickets, not that buying one for me is a option, just you yokels ;)
