Town Fight for Danny Goal

Post by Dazza » Tue Feb 07, 2006 9:53 am

Boss Joe Royle says the club will do everything they can to get Danny Haynes credited with the Blues' winning goal at Norwich on Sunday. Official sources currently give the 87th minute strike to Norwich defender Gary Doherty.

Royle said: "It would be nice for Danny to be credited with the goal and it would preserve his record of having scored against Norwich at youth, reserve and first team levels in one season.

"After the game all I kept hearing from the opposition end was that it was hand-ball. Well, they can't have it both ways. To me that says Danny put the ball in the net, so it's his goal."

The Football League say that in order to get the goal credited to Haynes the club secretary will have to contact them. The video panel will then view the video and make a decision.

Haynes looks unlikely to be fit for Saturday's visit by Burnley after injuring ankle ligaments at Carrow Road.

Royle says he considered bringing in a loanee frontman but decided against it: "Danny might miss out against Burnley but we have Sam Parkin back in training and Adam Proudlock is also available.

"I thought about bringing in a high-profile replacement for a month but at the same time I don't want to do anything that will hinder Danny's progress."

I'v watched the replay time and time again, it looks to me as if Doherty kicks Haynes forearm onto the ball, but Haynes deffo had the last touch.

You have to admire his commitment. Same with the two Green fists he took to the grill earlier.

btw, its a foul to lower your head into danger like that...

That play had so many things wrong with it, that the ref prolly had no clue what to call, so why not point to the center circle... :D
