Police and stewards @ Norwich....

Post by Dazza » Tue Feb 07, 2006 10:57 am

Last time I went to Carrot Road I remember there being LOTS more police officers. I have the pics of met horses in front and behind of the fans, also the helicopter above and the 4 riot vans in front and behind incase anything kicked off. Apart from 1 riot van and a some police officers it wasnt that bad.

Also in the ground last time (as Earl Blue can vouch for) we had SO many arguements with the stewards as they kept telling us to sit down, this never happened once, even the Norwich fans were being told to sit down - was insane.

Has the derby become less violent? Discuss... ;)

Good thing IMHO, Norwich also got away with alot at PR, mind you, you have to treat all fans the same or you are just going to make thing worse again.

I think people have become more aware of consequences for being violent while representing 'your team'. With the possibility of being banned for life from ALL football stadiums, people are more likely to talk, than let their fists talk for them.

The violence has decreased, but with with greater banter, arguments, pride, desire and passion, I think the derbys have changed for the better.

Lol Dazza, Your abso right.

I also remember that day a couple of other things.

a). I got loads of abuse from about 6 young (11-13) year olds when I
was getting ome money from nthe cashpoint at morrisons.

b). The bricks on the new stand that were so loose we
could have easily lobbed one at the Norwich fans.

c). That poor old steward who kept running up and down the stairs
to get us to sit down. Remember he got so knackered he gave up.

lol

As for the Police presence yes there were met and helicopeters
there..

I would only assume the lack of violence last year gave them
no reason to concern themselves this year.

Hey Dazza.

kept saying you "f'ing w*nkers" and smacking his hand on his head, he was crazy! Heard him also say to his mate he was in the Barclay end for a Norwich Ipswich game and he almost got beaten up and was taken out at half time!

They seemed less heavy handed this time round. Glad they let us stand, can't see why they would wish to provoke fans at a derby by enforcing the no standing rule.
Was funny outside the ground before the game on my phone, stepped past the one line of police only to be told "for your own safety get back."

Yet there were about 10 police within 5 metres of me lol!

Apparently some of our fans got thrown out when we scored the 2nd, any truth in this?

Scheduling the game for 11:15 on a sunday morning also takes some of the heat out of a game. i know its a derby so the atmosphere is not like a usual early/sunday match where everyone is asleep but its definately different to if they had it as a night match.

The police men who got them, was a rite as* hole an all, thought he was above them, and didnt really take into account that it was a football day.

Am I missing something here? If you're not allowed to drink on a train, how come you can buy booze at the food place on them?

Or is it a "special" football rule that no one on the face of the planet other than the police knows about?

You gotta remember McDonna, that all us football fans - esp. Ipswich - are mindless thugs that'll rip the heads of baby ducks for a laugh. If we're ever allowed near a pint - especially on a train - the consequences don't even bear thinking about!

its a special football rule that applied to the 1 train. If I had got the train that left 5 minutes after the football special train I would have been able to drink as it wasn't a special service.

There was no bar on the special train, I went to Nodg the last time we played and it was said that you were not allowed to take alcohol on the train.

The chap two seats aloong from me got hauled out after we scored the 2nd goal.

I made a dash down the isle torwards the boys celebrating and got man-handled by a copper, Naturally I ignored him but got told to return to my seat otherwise he'll chuck me out - For once I did as I was told becasue I didn't wanna miss all the stick I could dish out to the Barclay Boys!

Kinda did take the edge of it though when your going mad and some jobworth copper interfers.

Yeah, basically. They have to put a poster up in Narrich station a few days in advance, saying which trains it applies to. And it's not necessarily just the football specials, either.[/quote]
