Play-off outsiders Ipswich are poised to look at signing a loan striker in a bid to keep their slim hopes alive.

Teenager Danny Haynes is having a scan on an ankle injury sustained in the Tractor Boys' 2-1 win over Norwich the East Anglian derby at Carrow Road on Sunday, when he forced the ball over the line for the winning goal just two minutes from time.

Manager Joe Royle said: "Whether we actually bring in a striker on loan depends on what they find when young Danny has his scan. We don't suspect anything sinister, but if he is going to miss more than two games I will make my move.

"If he's just going to miss the home game against Burnley on Saturday and the trip to Crewe next Tuesday I'll leave things as they are, otherwise I'll look to get a new face on board."

Ipswich are short of firepower as Nicky Forster recently underwent his second cartilage operation of the season and Sam Parkin, although fit after a broken ankle, is nowhere near match fit.

I agree, although my only concern is if Lee gets injured.

Maybe we could do with Lupoli to be on the bench like Haynes was...

But the stats always tell a story and he seems to have the habit of finding the net.

I think if we bring in a loanee we need someone with confidence, not someone who's been overlooked and needs handholding for a while before he gets it back. Just my opinion of course

I knew someone would bring up the youth recored! But unfortunatley we have players who where/are JUST as prolific at youth level. So in my opinion he simply isnt worth it. He couldnt cut it against doncaster etc this season he wouldnt in the championship.

But I would say that a bit of precocious talent plus unswerving confidence in yourself (arrogance) can get you a long way for a few games. And a few games is all we will need.

I also think that his reputation goes before him a bit and he may attract a lot of attention from championship defenders perhaps giving Lee & the midfielders a better chance of getting some space.

But at the end of the day loans are always a gamble.

Reserve level counts for nothing IMO it just gives match experince.
