Summer sales replaced by better players?

Post by toby » Sun Feb 12, 2006 2:48 pm

Someone on TWTD suggested this and I wondered what people thought?

Supple/Price just as good if not better (and younger) than Davis?
Garvan better than Miller (although doesn't score as many goals)?
Lee more skillful than Kuqi

Which only really leaves Bent not fully replaced, although could Haynes be the answer?

I certainly think that our midfield at the moment looks more mobile, more combative and much better than it has for a long time, Miller, Magilton and Currie together meant that Westlake was the only one doing the running!

Thats actually a very good point toby, especially with the 'keeper situation and our much younger midfield....Im just very proud of all our 'homegrown' player's :D

I think for the most part, the big difference is the loss of experience. Magilton has faded almost to a bit-part, whereas only toward the end of last season was he struggling - Miller and Kuqi were both seasoned campaigners, and Davies was a consistent top-notch shot stopper who was getting plaudits week in, week out, for 95%+ of the season.

We have a good bunch of talented youngsters, but their inexperienced, we have seen some very variable performances from individuals - I thought, for instance, both Juan and Garvan struggled a little yesterday - had some nice touches, but also a lot of unforced errors - not unexpected after two fantastic games in a row for both of them.

That was part of the plan, we had no real replacement for him at the time, I think it was the right thing to do, keep him to help others take his place.

That's the way I see it any way.

We shouldnt forget that this season is ment to be a transisional period for us,we are not expected to make the playoffs and nor do we have any right to be any higher than 15th!!! The simple fact that we are would suggest that their is an exceptional squad being built right before our eyes and that people is just so.

I confess that i was calling for BFJ to be replaced, for i felt that his heart and commitment was not in it,It took until Hull City away back in December before i witnessed any sort of passion from the bench and i speak from someone who goes to every game. I can not fault BFJ's managerial record in getting clubs promoted,I believe he will, mabe not this season, but certainly next.I e-mailed him directly and appologised for not believing him.

I will be renewing my season ticket along with my son's regardless of,I do believe we are witnessing at present the comming together of a good squad,I have noticed that JDV is commanding the back as he was at wigan and enjoying his football along with his captain duties,Scott Barron is learning every game he plays, this kid is effectivley keeping Sito out of the starting 11 and i'm a big fan of the little spaniard!!

Bargin of the season must be £100,000 for Lee, I can recall a very brief chat i had with Sir Bobby when he paid £250,000 for an unknown player from Plymouth called Paul Marriner.(250,000 then was about 6 mill in todays market!!)"Bobby? Are you mad!!?" I said....."watch and learn son, watch and learn..." The rest is history....Enjoy your season people,The best is yet to come!!

Yes I also think that next seasons best team will be as good as the one from 2 years ago. Last year's was special though because it was good enough to go up a year earlier and was kept together.

Funny you should say this because Alan Lee really reminds me of Paul Mariner for some reason.

I really hope he can go on to become something like the player that Mariner was for us.
