Midfielder Vemund Brekke Skard is included in the Town senior squad for the first time ahead of Tuesday's trip to Crewe Alexandra. Skard joined the Blues from Norwegian side Brumunddal at the beginning of the year.

The 24-year-old comes into the travelling party as a replacement for Owen Garvan, who misses out after reaching five bookings.

Boss Joe Royle says the former trainee teacher will be amongst the substitutes at Gresty Road: "Vemund will start on the bench but deserves his chance and has worked hard to recover from his hernia operation.

"He's rock hard, as strong as an ox, the players run into him in training and bounce.

"He can play as well though, we wouldn't just bring somebody into this club of all places if he couldn't handle the ball.

"He's training every day with the first team and he's very comfortable in that environment.

"He's a get-around, workaholic who can pass the ball, although he's more Robbie Savage than Glenn Hoddle."

Skipper Jim Magilton looks likely to replace Garvan in the starting line-up.

Squad: Barron, Currie, De Vos, Juan, Lee, Magilton, McDonald, Naylor, Peters, Price, Richards, Sito, Skard, Supple, Westlake,
Wilnis.
Sounds like a rock solid midfielder who will put himself about, will be interested to hear from people who are going to the game what hes like, if he comes on that is.

He might be rock solid, but can he pass the ball?

This is a surprise to me. He's already on the bench ? Perhaps JR has him in mind for certain games. After all this means that there's no room for Peters. Still judging by the description he could be okay. Sounds a bit like a (probably long forgotten) midfielder from the Lyall days called Steve Palmer. Also strong and busy. Not one of our greatest ever midfielders but not a bad act to follow.

Let's hope we get to see him for a while.

I had alot of time for Palmer - especially when he partnered steve sedgeley at the back for a while - until he was moved on. They seemed like a very strong partnership - palmer was strong and industrius while sedgley had a bit more skill to him.

Although in todays game I would hope to see more from Skaard - perhaps he might develop into one heck of a central defender as well - which I would be more than happy with!

Says in his stats he is only 5 foot 9 inches so perhaps centre back isnt an option.

Well Skard sound like a decent footballer from what I'm hearing But I don't think he'll be 100% fit yet because fristly he needs to get into the English style of play frist as the English game is alot faster than the European game. We can't judge him on one game he needs time to settle.

I hope you Tractor Boys give Vemund some time to prove he's a good player. I know him from playing with him in Norway. I can tell you he's very good defensive. Strong and a good tackler. It's not easy to get pass him. Good luck at The Railway Station tomorrow. "Fat boy what's the score..." I laughed. -the best from minus 15 and snow-

I can't wait for him to play, JR seems to think he's good so that's good enough for me, I have nothing against a good hard player at the back, I mean Terrys not good through being polite on the field is he????

Nor was Allun Hunter PMSL

Personally I have only heard great things about Skard and he could be our best player- we just don't know it yet! :D
