I thought the atmosphere today was poor. Its worrying when 20 kids can outsing the north stand.

Was it the performance that put us on edge, or was it the bitterly cold weather? Or have we realised this season is going no where?

It's hard to get excited over that kind of game. The atmos was pretty good for the first 15 or so, then it pretty much died.

Too nervy and not very convincing by the players pretty much kept the crowd quiet. We never looked like scoring a 2nd goal today, Lee was off the pace of the game,which was expected,we as a team failed to win the loose ball and defended too deep. Millwall had done their home-work on us and harried us into errors.....I do not believe for one min that our season is over. Our next two away fixtures against Preston and Palace will determine that.

Remember that we apparently came into this season as a side in transission, We have no right to be up the table putting in a challenge for promotion. The "Budgies" were supposed to be walking over this league this season,the fact that they are still below us is a bonous!!!

I will be going to Preston on tues nite,sadly without my son who needs his schooling!!! I hope that Fuller is right up for this game and not just to turn up. Depending on Fullers mentality and how he approaches the game,will determine how we do up their. With him in viberant mood,I fancy us to win 2-1 or mabe 3-1.....with Fuller as another number making up a squad,I only reckon we will win 1-0.......Enjoy your season and see you all their!!

our home vocal support , by and large is crap IMO...rarely does it get above two decibels ...it may sound noisey to you lot in the NS ...but up the other end (which is like a complete morgue)...you cant really be heard that well.

Ive lost count of the number of visiting fans that sing how crap we are ....and they are right ...No atmosphere - minimal prolonged singing..oh and just the embarrassing squeak of the "under tens" all round the ground - who btw managed to outshout their more senior fans in the NS yesterday !

Rangers fans proved in the pre season game , it's not the accoustics of the ground...so it can only be down to the "family " make up within the crowd ...the larger % of the crowd appear happy tojust sit quietly and passively allow themselves to be "entertained"

Couldn't agree more hallum ...we were awful/are awful....even my 10yr old commented yesterday that they (she sits in Greene King with her dad) couldnt hear us in the NS at all yesterday

glad it's not just me moaning about it then !!

I've said the same for a few seasons now, the atmosphere went from Portman Road when the old North Stand was pulled down

Am sure what you are saying is true, so will try to turn things around when I come down. Am looking forward to singing a few songs I have learnt from living up here

People who go in the north stand r the 1s that sing. People that go in the other 1s generally dont. Its been like that for years!!!

Since the bigger northstand, it seems like they dont make as much noise, prob due to some people in their watering down the people who do sing!

why dont people come up with solutions instead of moaning?
How about moveing a select few fans (a pocket of fans) and sit them else were in the ground?
like for example, all you lot who no each other on here, why not sit together in another stand and get every 1 else going?

that is a good idea, like the group of blokes in the middle of the north lower,(the firm lol) put a group like that in another stand and start singin

...however the remainder of the ground is also devoid of any impetus in continuing on a song that is started in the NS - lets face it have you ever heard the Britannia or Cobbold or GK stand initiate a song ??

Mind you I have been to other grounds and the varying"home support" is not any different from our own - still peeees me orf though !

it seems to be to many people go in to the north stand to enjoy the atmosphere rather than contribute.

Completely agree with Phil....it seems that the NS is getting quieter and quieter every season coz people move there but dont sing. If the NS sung all game, then other stands would join in and the noise would be good. But if the NS dont sing, its left to small groups in other stands to start chants which never carry on.

i sit in the north lower, my cousin hasnt been to the last couple of games because he got arrested at the naaawich game lol, but he is a nutter and he always sings, i sing when he sings but not so much when hes not there

..thats not a bad idea actually - I'd "sing" back to you ..thats for sure !!

Old topic I know, but I want to add my opinion. Basicly, home support everywhere is terrible. I see Lincoln more than I see Town these days, no atmosphere there. Been away to places like Mansfield, Notts County, Boston, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Peterborough, Northampton etc etc. No atmosphere from the home fans, our away following always outsings them.

At home we always get outsung. Even by MK Dons earlier this season in the cup.

I'd blame it on high ticket prices, seats and the changing demographic (clever word I know) of the average football fan. Basicly you're more likley to see families in grounds, the crowd is more middle class and more likley to be going to be entertained than to contribute to the experience.

Solutions?
Cheaper ticket prices.
Return of terraces.
Unreserved seating in the North Stand.
Don't take the seaon tickets off people who want to stand up and sing.

Top two won't happen, third is an actual possibility but it might p*ss off too many people who would have to get to the ground early and the last? Thats up to a change of policy on the part of the club, the council and the health and safety tw*ts that run football. Which also won't happen.

I have had the pleasure of watching an England International Game
at Portman Road, since the new stands were completed.

The game was against Croatia and with a capacity crowd the noise,
atmosphere and feelngs were fecking brilliant. So its nothing
to do with accoustics...


I think amongst the reasons the most definative is the poor season
we have had. Yes we have had a good run recently, but we
were a long way away from being where we would have been happier
to sing at the top of our voices. This does have an affect.

I think the fact that the away fans are located in the
wrong end of the ground and therefore the playful singing banter
gets lost. How many other grounds sit the away fans away from
good singing crowds.

There was a a result of my first point a split loyalty from fans
towards the board, management and even some of the players and
that would also contribute to the volume control.

However I do believe there are birghter things ahead of us
and its starting to become noticeable. I would expect the crowds
to start dwindling down at Portman Road now, but I do believe
once all is sorted on Paper atportman road the fans will start
the 2006/2007 campaign in Fine Voice.
I for one will be, when I am around.
