This season is over...

Post by Dazza » Sat Mar 11, 2006 3:00 pm

For me todays game 100% confirmed our season over. Personally I thought it was over when we lost at Wolves, we really needed a result that day. I think even JR knows its over as we dont normally send up Shane Supple in the 90th minute to try and get a winner.

Seems it was an all or nothing tatic. Still think the next 10 games are a good way for these lads to not be pressure to get promotion or avoid relagation and just play their hearts out and learn a bit more about each other and hopefully gel in time for next season.

Onwards and Upwards... :)

But Wolves are doing extremely well... we had to beat them to stand a chance in my opinion.

Realistically it was over anyway, despite rumours on this board to the contrary, more of the teams above us, are better than us, consistently, and that made any chance a very long shot. Now, it is approaching mathematically highly unlikely, as I am convinced we can't get a result at Preston. Palace is a possiblity, they're not that consistent at home, but by then it will be already over.

For my mind, thats probably for the best. We have the potential for a great team in what we have, if we can add to it with 3 good signings in the summer, and ditch some of the driftwood - next year will be Joe's last chance, and I think its the best chance he's likely to have (ok, save last year, which should have been a straight-up season).

The play-offs this year would almost certainly end in defeat, and we've all seen the mental impact that has on a team and I'm convinced we had a hangover from last years disaster right up to Christmas.

the season is not over, what are you lot on about, if we lose to preston on tuesday then it is over but if we beat them and then palace we are definatly within touching distance of the play offs, the next game is the make or break game!

Tbh I never thought the playoffs were achievable this season.
However, there is no doubt that the team is heading in the right direction although I'm still not convinced that next season will be as successful as some people are predicting (we may have to wait until the season after next to mount the real challenge).
Imo our midfield is still very light weight and I would love to see us have a real ball winner in there. Also, once again today we were back to having a square peg in a round hole (ie: Matt Richards playing on the right side of midfield) which obviously never helps the cause.
All in all though things still look a lot brighter than they did a few months ago and hopefully soon there will be even better times to come.

I think we can barely drop anymore points so its gonna be hard!

7 points behind preston, but effectively its 8 as we have such a bad goal difference so will have to beat them on points.

Also Wolves seem to be winning now so maybe that game was vital, as IF we had won I certainly would be more confident.

I think it is still possible, but will be very hard. Definately need a win in midweek otherwise it is virtually over!

Your right Dazza ,to lose at wolves was a body blow, but to draw with millwall at home......thats bl#"% s#"¤.we should and have to be looking at maximum points at home against lesser teams.I would love it ,but cant see anything as of yet to make me take back my guess before the seson started of around a 9th place finish.

I am usually the biggest optimist there is BUT there is no way we will make the play offs after yesterday's game. If we couldn't beat Millwall, what chance have we got against Preston, Palace etc. We have blown it again big time.

He was close to getting on the end of it aswell  Maybe that would have made the ground a little more noisy. As for the season being over, I woulnt have said its definately over although it probably is. If we lose on tuesday its over.

I cant believe that you of all people have posted that, if it was any1 else you would be the 1st to moan at them for being negative and that they should get behind the team, Our season is FAR from over, we can get the the play offs, and aslong as its mathmatical possible ill still believe that we can do it

Jonno, as you know I am one of the most positive fans this club has, but I just dont think we cant beat Wolves to the final play off spot.

A few weeks ago people were doubting it and I was fully behind the team but after a defeat at Wolves and a draw against Millwall I feel we've slipped up.

I hope I'm wrong.

cant really say this season is over just cos we drew yesterday ....so did a lot of our rivals ..and we still have to play Palarse and Preston (although maybe not this coming week - bloody weather !!).

IF we manage to beat these two , surely that would throw open a top six place up for grabs ?..granted it will very difficult - but not mathematically impossable

Don't reckon our season is over yet, it could be pretty soon. Palace and Preston are huge games for us, if we win both we will still be in there with a chance. Lose or draw either of them though and I think it's all over for this season.

That said, I won't be disappointed if it does happen. Look back to what most of us said at the start of the season, we weren't expecting to reach the playoffs for the most part, and to be where we are has surparsed a lot of people's expactations, so while some are moaning now, I reckon this season has actually been pretty successful! :-)

I disagree, the fat lady is drinking lots of water and warming up but it's not over until it's mathematically impossible. I never expected to make the play-offs this season anyway so the fact we are still talking about it in mid-March is a bonus anyway! :)

And by the way, the guy that called Radio Suffolk after the Millwall game and said he wasn't renewing his season ticket after that performance good ridance, we don't need twats like you anyway

I dont think its over yet. This week will decide it. If we win both we will be right back in the mix. Lose 1 and i think it could be over. Lose both and it definitely is. Win one draw one would be ok if other results went our way. Im starting to think the premiership may not be the best thing for this club right now anyway. If we were playing premiership football next season we would come straight back down and struggle in the championship or even go down again, like many teams who have gone up when they werent ready. I think we need the rest of this season in the championship to sort ourselves out, get ready for the premiership push next season. If we do lose both games this week then i hope royle will bring through alot more of the younger players to get used to the set up. Players like Casement etc so they can play a bigger role next season and be ready for it instead of being thrown in at the deepend like most of the younger players recently !

Well for those optimists amongst us, of course the seasons is not over yet.
It never will be until the FAT lady sings.

Naturally we are in a situation where we hope we continue to
get results and others fail, but whatever and however we play
we know we have to reply on that,

If we had won our last game and went on to win
another 6 gamesall then the prepared speeches
by the pessamists would still be waiting to be opened, and even if
we got within reaching distance and failed at the very last game
the words would be the same.

I dont mind because at least the speeches have been made now
and hopefully us optimists wont need to be reminded.
