Nash Released, Joins Southend

Post by Himple » Thu Mar 23, 2006 10:40 am

Central defender Gerard Nash has been told he will not be offered a new deal when his contract expires at the end of the season. Nash, who made one senior appearance for Town as a sub against Burnley two seasons ago, has been beset by almost constant injury problems during his time with the Blues.

Boss Joe Royle told the 19-year-old the bad news earlier today: "It seemed like a good time to have a chat with Nashy, with the emergence of Chris Casement and the probability of an older centre-half coming in over the summer to put more immediate pressure on Jason De Vos and Richard Naylor, along with Chris.

"Gerard has been a victim of circumstance having had two major knee injuries. We had such high hopes for him and I have no doubt he will make his living in the game at some level or other.
Released defender Gerard Nash has decided to join Southend on a month's loan. The Irishman was told earlier today that he will not be offered a contract by the Blues when his current deal ends in the summer.

Nash, who had a loan spell at Hartlepool earlier in the season, made one appearance for Town against Burnley at Portman Road two years ago.

Foster yes, but why parkin ? This is his first major injury that has been typical of our season. Why release a player we have just paid 450 000 punds for and is top scorer ?

As for Nash he was a top lad. He stayed at my aunties house and was really nice. Shame he was plagued by injury and maybe he will make an appearance for southend next season at portman road.

I'm very dissappointed with this call - with his potential I would like to have seen him offered a one year contract and been sent out on loan, his wages would be low and it would give him (hopefully) a chance at an injury free run

totally agree he could have been shown the door if after a year it was the same old same old.A little bit short-termism me thinks.
