well ive heard 2 different views of currie yesterday

one of them i cant repeat on here and the other was that he had one of his best games of the season

obviously everyone is going to have to agree to disagree about currie, because in some people eyes hes as good as pele and for others hes as good as mark fish

I dont think anyone thinks he is as good as pele
Obviously i wasnt at the game so cant comment, But only Glen Little has set up more goals in the championship. And he got promoted yesterday with Reading!

currie is a frustrating player to watch in my opinion, during a game their are many different curries to watch.

the currie that gives the ball away

the currie that drifts in and out of the game

the currie that can make a killer pass

the currie that can leave players on their ar*e

he's a player despite his faults you would find hard to leave out of the team, simply because when he's playing well, he's really playing well

That's precisely how I see him. Although the 'leaving players on their arses' doesnt happen often enough for me. I just feel if we're aiming for promotion next season our midfield would be better suited to having Currie come on for the last 20-30 minutes in games as an impact player. You look at the likes of Reading, they have very few flair players in their side, just pure hard work, bravery, a good engine etc. I just think he's a luxury we cant afford if we're going to go for it next season, we need consistency and Currie is certainly a player not renowned for that.

Currie is a good player to have in a 4-5-1, he sits in well behind the forward creating chances and holding up the ball but I'm not sure if he is ideal for a 4-4-2.

Like everyone else has said he is eithier fantastic or just plain stupid and rubbish, sadly its not game to game, its within matches, which is annoying! You cant take him off because he can create a minute of magic.

when you say bring him on with 20 to 30 mins to go i know what your saying, however it's hard to leave out a player from the start that could potentially make as pass or on the odd occasion make someone look pretty stupid.....i for one would be always thinking he should have started.

Currie is definately a player that town fans will never agree on!!...I completely disagree with you Dazza here....I think he's much better in a 442, as when he's on the right wing he gets so much space and he's able to get some decent crosses in (surely his best asset?!)...but when he's in the centre of midfield he seems to do very little...I mean, he rarely ever plays a defence splitting pass does he?! I think he should be in the team, as he is a good player....one thing tho, I wish he wouldnt slow the game down every time we get a chance to counter-attack!! lol

its a discussion forum, everyone is allowed an opinion, its not just critisism

ive never known a player split ITFC fans like Darren Currie, so its good to discuss his pros and CONS

well...if some one has the time (or a sad enuff life)...maybe they could count up .....

The argument for the high amount of goals he has set up is due to the fact that he takes ALL of our set pieces. The law of averages suggests sooner or later one will find an ITFC head and hit the back of the net.

I also read somewhere that DC is 3rd or 4th behind Richards, Garvan and Magilton (!) in assists from open play. Like Riv says this is a discussion forum and I just feel a hardworking gutsy midfield would be more effective in getting out of this division than having Currie in the side IMHO.

I expext a good few other papers too, these are the only one's I'v read so far...say what you like but other's can see what myself and Luke do....Im proud he's a Town player

He's a flair player and we need to work out whether we can carry him as he's not a strong contributor - in the way a Richards / Westy / Williams would be - but can we go up as a purely "workman" like team when we don't have an effective defense...??

One thing I would say to those who question Currie's set up's this season, I would have thought that his rivals at the top of the list are also likely to be their teams primary set piece "takers" so its is still a worthwhile achievement, even if he fluffs chances he must be doing something right as Juan took over for a while and he's still right up there??

How often do his crosses go straight into the arms of the keeper or fail to clear the first defender? How often does he slow our forward play down to his pace with unneccessary touches or step overs? How often does he leave us exposed by bottling physical contact? Darren is the biggest tart i have ever seen on a football pitch, but he is capable of that one moment that could turn a game.

Personally, I agree with Lewis and would point to the how misleading statistics can be bearing in mind he takes 98% of our deadball efforts. I would be fascinated to see statistics on how often he finds a Town player, because his success rate would maybe less impressive.

However, I will never forgive any footballer for being a gutless tart! FFS get your foot in you poof!

The problem is ...these workaholic grifters in midfield have / are all Bloody injured ie Williams , Juan and now Westy ...when they were fit our midfield looked unstopable - but it only lasted a short time until they all seem to get injuredc around the same time(natwich game ??)

Currie is no different now to then - it's just we notice the lack of hard ball winning tackles , since the the likes of Juan , Williams and and Westy have gone out of the side....we were IMO noticably less effective v Hull once Westy had to go off. Currie has never been a ball winner....he's the supplier of killer / telling passes..and to be fair to him ,Joe has asked him to play just behinf=d the lone striker due to our stirker injury problems ...he cant do it all !!

I'm sure he would love to put his foot in, but all the times I've seen him play he arrives after the bloke with the ball has gone - speedy he ain't and it is really highlighted when he is giving chase (in the broadest sense of the word )

Watch him closely, he chases around like the proverbial headless chicken in persuit of the ball but just can't catch it

As to his overall value against Hull - scored the goal, hit the bar, laid on the pass that led to Deano hitting the post etc etc - so if he wasn't there would we have lost 1-0?

Who knows, but would you like to find out the hard way by not playing him?
