Town have beaten Championship winners Reading to the signature of highly-rated Icelandic striker Viktor Unnar Illugason. The 16-year-old, currently with hometown side Breidablik, is already an U17 international.

Illugason has spent time on trial with both the Blues and the Royals during his school holidays over the last couple of years, but TWTD understands that he has committed to join Town's academy ahead of the Premiership's newest club as one of the 2006/07 intake at Playford Road.

Also amongst Town's new recruits will be Scottish central defender Paul Watson. The 15-year-old was on trial with the Blues last summer and has also played a number of games with the U16s this season, including Saturday's defeat to Coventry City.

Already confirmed amongst next season's new academy full-timers is striker Jordan Rhodes, son of goalkeeping-coach Andy.

TWTD reported last week that New Zealander Tommy Smith, a central defender, has also signed, while midfielder Jai Reason, goalkeeper Andrew Plummer, midfielder Edward Upson, full-back Kurt Robinson and midfielder/central defender Curtley Williams are also expected to be on the list when the Blues announce their new intake later this month.

Doubt many have, but he must be a pretty decent player for Reading to be after him. They seem to be pretty good at picking up unheard of players who turn out to be pretty good, like Kevin Doyle.

Are you winding me up? They are sh1te at that. In all the years I've had to live in this god forsaken place no one apart from Neil Webb has come through there youth academy or from scouting. Then all of a sudden they get lucky with one good player in god knows how long.

I am not suprised the lad chose our academy over theirs, their youth players never get the chance unlike ours at Ipswich.

Well its good to see a brisk turnover in the youth as I've said before. I guess we should look out for some of these names in 3 or 4 years time.

Think its a bit optimistic expecting to have heard anything about any of them at this stage

Both signed at young age.... The other two are class young players.
