Royle told: Get us up or Get out

IPSWICH boss Joe Royle was last night warned by David Sheepshanks - Get us to the Premiership next season or you'll be out.
Tractor Boys chairman Sheepshanks has promised the former Everton chief another season at Portman Road.
But he insists he will review Royle's position at the end of next season if Town do not return to the big time.
He said: "If we are promoted next season then Joe has a clause that gives him an extension of another year. If we are not promoted the position will be reviewed. But there will be no review of the contract until then.
"Joe came here to manage this club in the Premiership and for the first time in four years, we will be in a position to give him a team capable of automatic promotion."
And Sheepshanks dismissed claims he is lining up Colchester boss Phil Parkinson to replace Royle (above). He added: "There are a number of first-rate young managers in the country and Parkinson is one. But there is no basis for linking him with us."

Well, we already knew he would retire when his contract runs out at the end of next season if we don't go up. I say get him out now, it's kind of hard to build for the future with an ageing manager who you know is going to be out at the end of the season.
Oh Tony Mowbray!

I say he should see his time out, if we can keep this squad together and not be hit like this season with injuries, I'm sure we'll be up there with the rest.
Any way can we afford to terminate his contract!!!!!?????

Agreed. I think we should keep him until next year. We have the potential to secure promotion next season, but getting a new manager could disrupt the team. i admit that at christmas I was calling for Royle to go, but our form after the turn of the year has changed my mind. Injury permitting, we will go up next year.

I love your optimism....but I see very little hope of that with the squad and manager we've got at the moment

read the article title
then try reading the article, Sheepshanks does not say Royle will not get a contract extension if we stay down, all he is saying is it will be reviewed, like any memeber of staff whose contract may be expiring at that time

The squad we have at the moment is very good. We came close (ish) to making the play-offs this year, even with all the injuries we've had. The manager is the best we can get at the moment. Realistically, we cant afford anyone better.

I can't help it LOL But I bet we can't afford to get rid of him any way.
WOW only us and Sunderland have strikers that have not scored 6 goals this season.
Mind you if JR must walk he can take Sheepshanks with him as he also to blame.

Is BFJ playing a shrewed, clever, managerial game with Ipswich Town?
Here we have a manager who was given a what...4 year contract and announces that Ipswich will be his last managerial post. Now comming to the last season of his contract,he gives it his all to gain us promotion forcing the board to renew his contract for doing so,Back to square one only a massive pay off to terminate his services.....As a buisnessman myself,I advise caution from DS and the board and not be swayed by promotion itself in offering BFJ a renewal.

What the hell is this "for the first time in four years crap"?
The chances of putting together a team half as good as either year 1 or 2 in those 4 years is negligible to say the least.
Sheepy needs to stop the bullshit PR campaign, and ride off on whatever horse he rode in on - preferably with Joe Royle riding shotgun.

Have you seen the league table recently?
Getting close to the play offs is missing out with a game or two to go, NOT being out of the running with 8 or 9 still left!!!
We are closer to the relegation places at the moment than the play-offs!
