Since Sheepshanks has stated quite openly now, that the agreement with ITFC and JR was always that if he manages to get Town promoted he would automatically get another years extension as a Prem manager , by way of reward - or if he fails the Board would review his case and in all likelyhood dispense with his services ...


so it must be a "Catch 22" situation for those that cant wait to see Joe go ?

1) Do those fans swallow their pride and "will" Joe to do well next season..since the prize would be promotion and the increased likelyhood that we wull keep the likes of Garvan, Supple etc?

OR :

2) "will" him to fail and whoope for joy if he does ....and thereby also "will" the Team to fail too - the consequences of which will see the talent that we have managed to keep over the summer be sold off- since the Financial Lenders have only given Town a two year "window" it seems to get promoted before they call in their debts again!

Seems to me the Logical choice has to be option one !!

They have shot themselves in the foot really because they have almost promised us a promotion challenge and if it doesn't materialise then he will have little choice but to go, and I doubt that we will be in the promotion running myself

That's a really silly question really, there's nobody out there who is a true fan, who would rather see the team do badly just to get rid of a Manager. Most adults don't "hate" Royle anyway, more of a case just dont think he's up to it anymore. Sitting pretty waiting to retire is one opinion, out-of-date and tactically inept is another. He doesn't exactly make a lot of friends with the fans going on local radio and talking blatant bullshit week in, week out either.

Either way the question also seems wildly irrelevant. One of the saftest bets out there has to be Joe Royle is never getting Town up. He's had 3 seasons including one very gifted team, and still screwed it up at the death. Next season will be a bunch of has-beens and wet-behind the ears, and I sincerely doubt combined with Royles "interesting" team selections and tactics, that we'll be posing any kind of threat to anybody.

I have to actually wonder if Joe can survive the rest of the season - based on what I've seen I don't see a win coming anytime soon - perhaps we wont get another point in the what, 3 games left - our worst finish in quite some time, and I really hope some pressure starts to build for a change over the Summer.

Joe should leave with thanks for a job well done, but we have the young players and the infrastructure to really big team, and should be starting down the road of a 3-5 year plan to become a "big club" with a new, young manager (all IMO of course).

We could, in theory finish fourth bottom and that is looking extremely likely IMO worse season in 40 odd years, only way to describe it is a disgrace, or a big pile of f**king w*nk c*ck sh*t

The logical choice, as you put it, would be for the board to admit that they made a big mistake, and to get rid of him now.

I along with the majority would like Joe to leave and leave now.....BUT...we cant afford to sack him....FACT....it would be too much of a finacial risk, we pay him off, try and find a replacement with not a lot to offer the new manager....its not going to happen

that basically reads to me that Royle is holding the club to ransom, he knows the score financially, any manager who has seen the past few perfomances from "his" team would feck off...

Hyperthetically speaking,BFJ may have lost some of the respect from certain Key players. BFJ does have an awful ammount of experience within the game,BUT and this is paramount,If he can not command respect from his players and upon asking them to do a job for him,fail to do so week in week out,then surely the board must intervine for the sake of the club? This chairman will of course leave it until the last moment,for the pay-off will no doubt be too great, but i am still optimistic regarding next season.With a summer signing of a solid defender and a creative mid-fielder,I believe our forward line is adiquate for next season.

The bit that suggests Joe will be lucky to survive the rest of this season?

In the knowlege that Sheepy has said he still has a year on his contract and we cant afford to pay him off I suspect Joe will still be with us next season.

We do have the potential to finish the lowest we have ever been in 40 years...and I concur with you that Joe has had questionable selections / tactics during the season - but on the basis of the nature of the squad in terms of numbers, injuries and blooding of acadamy kids I doubt there have been mnany true "options" for him to deploy this season.

Yes he did have one gifted squad to work with and missed out by a couple of points (had it not been for Kuqi's injury I think we would have been promoted- we never coped with his absence and Bent had his mind on playing for Charlton, so wasnt exactly pulling all the stops out from the Jna window was he ) However Joe Royle for the majoirity of his time here he has spent it in a major annual "re-building " mode through circumstances hardly of his own making.

I doubt any manager would have done any better than JR over the same period / circumstances...whether he has now come to the end of his reign remains to be seen.

But JR has had his Ipswich fan critics even before he set a foot in PR and I think some of these people do genuinely hate him - god knows why we have had worse here ie John Duncan ! I'm not saying he's been successful - but it depends on what you classify as "success".
In terms of promotion - no he has failed ...but in terms of keeping us in this division this year when half the first team left last season...then maybe he has actually been a success !!
