Fab: player of the year

Post by jjlj_itfc4eva » Fri Apr 21, 2006 11:21 am

TWTD understands that Fabian Wilnis has won the Town Player of the Year vote. The veteran Dutchman will pick up the award for the first time in his seven-year spell with the club.

The £200,000 January 1999 signing from De Graafschap fought off stiff competition from fellow defenders Jason De Vos and Richard Naylor to land the gong won last year by Shefki Kuqi.
Although I voted for Bam bam, i secrettly wanted fab to win. This is simply because I love the bloke. He fully understands the importance of the east anglian derby, and he loves Ipswich. Well done Fab.

Umm, I voted Owen Garvan. I suppose Fab's done alright, but then no one has exactly set the place alight this year.

Wilnis is Mr. Inconsistant just like Mr. Naylor!
He only got the award for being a "blue" and the fact "He hates Norwich"
one good game against the scum this season other then that he has been dog sh*t!
Just shows what i susspected, Alot of people really do not see the game i see.

Garvan ? Supple ? Juan ? For me they are the ONLY three players that realisticly should have been in the run in.

Supple- Although he is obviously going to be a very good prospect in the future, he has not been all that good this season.
Juan- Has been less consistent than bam bam and fab
Garvan- My third choice behind Bam bam and fab

Fab, player of the year....... what a joke!

Should've been Supple or De Vos.

Just my opinion but perhaps they should have done away with the player of the year award this season and had a fan of the year instead.
The players could have still have come to the awards evening and presented the trophy to the winner. Yeah right!!!!

We all see different things in every game, in each & every player! That's what football is all about, opinions.
I voted for Fab because in him i see someone who would constantly throw himself into a challenge, who shows a passion for the club that a few more could do with trying to mirror. Wherever he has been asked to play across the back, he has never really let the team down. Under Burley he faced a spell in the wilderness, but he has come back and more than justified his position (ok, maybe in a stronger defence he would be out in the wilderness again).
Wilnis (& Naylor, my 2nd choice) are not great players by a long way, but they both have something special....commitment. Micky Stockwell was in a similar vein, never going to be mentioned in the same breath as many of the "town greats", but if awards were given out, purely for 110% commitment to the blues, these blokes would be right up there! & that is good enough for me.

Voted Garvan, played really well this season IMO and ppl seem to forget the fact hes played nearly every game when hes only 17/18 (ppl still have been criticising him recently though ) Supple has played fairly well but not brilliantly but again what is he 18? 19? Juan really dont see what the fuss is about. Agree with Luke about Naylor and Wilnis both inconsistant but both loyal to the club menaing ppl will vote for the,. although who can blame them with the crap we've had to watch this season

I wanted to vote for Garvin, but as Joe Royal is forever saying,"They are only kids and can't play for 90 mins at this level!" bit of a contradiction with Garvin i think!! I went for Bam Bam rather than Fabian for as the question was."Player of the season" and not who is the most passionate Blue!

Yeh I'm happy too. With no regular front man and the everchanging midfield with no real stars I agree with the way the votes went.

Of course he's deserved it. Like I said to you yesterday hes been pushed from left back, to right back to centre back and is expected to play well in all those positions. And on the whole he's done that in style. For a man of his age to perform as well as he's done means he deserves it.

You've missed a few too haven't you??

I do try and read the papers every Monday morning to catch up as i can't get to games anymore. Nothing i can do about that. The games i have been to i've seen Wilnis play very well.
I also talk to fans about how the games have been every week, their own opinions etc. The majority all seem to come up with the same answers. But ofcorse everyone see's the game in different lights sometimes, although not that dramatically different.

You obviously see the way Wilnis play's differently to a few others :)

I agree with you there Lewis. He did deserve it and is a lovely man to talk to. Almost as nice as Richard Naylor.
