FA CUP DRAW

Post by derick_ipsw » Mon Dec 03, 2018 7:24 am

Town are ball number 19 for tonight's draw at 7.30pm. I hope we get a favorable draw one we can actually win, this might give us the spring board we need for the rest of the League season.

You could once get excited about the annual draw for this competition Third Round. Not any more.

So many factors where most interest is lost. From staging last four encounters at the national stadium to everything over commercialized and replays being phased out or made defunct. FA Cup brings to mind names such as Mortensen, Finney and Blanchflower. Maybe I'm just too old for present time bullshit, competition has lost considerable integrity and importance in modern time. Don't even know this years winners or finalists to emphasize a point.

Accrington is an accident waiting to happen. No-one under 30 years of age will remember a Town run in the competition, which is a sad indictment of past tradition, but after all this time you get used to it. Simple math, the opposition got themselves a very good opportunity here. If we can navigate past it, wouldn't be expected to see elimination by the fifth round at very best.

That's not to be pessimistic. Our cup pedigree is sh*t since the early 1990's. All fans of a certain age will concur, there can be no dispute.

Cโ€™mon we can beat Accrington Stanley surely!

This is a chance to play with the pressure off a bit - afterall we ainโ€™t going to win this trophy so letโ€™s enjoy it and see if we can get a run going. Iโ€™d love to see Dozzell, Downes and Bishop across the middle and KJ knocking in a couple for old times.

But do we want to beat Accrington?

Get beat and Concentrate on the League vs morale, confidence boost in a Cup win.

At the moment, Iโ€™d reckon any kind of good feel is welcome. Donโ€™t care about a Cup run, but I think a defeat would send us further in despair.

200 / 1 to win competition outright - William Hill.

250 / 1 Sky Bet, Corals

300 / 1 Paddy Power

500 / 1 Bet Victor

Some of the above would appear belligerent. Yes we're a poor team with one victory in the competition since it's inception in 1872 or thereabouts but some would hope for something more favorable than what is presented. We may start as favorites for the third round event next year but the opposition have themselves a very good opportunity to cause something of an "upset or "surprise" when the time arises.

Not only that (but) primary focus will be on the league itself. Getting out the hole we dug ourselves when Hurst came in will take priority over any external duties or endeavors. Say again if the opposition have themselves a victory, it won't arrive as no substantial news or surprise.
