Planning For League One - Who Would You keep ?

Post by Bluemike » Wed Feb 13, 2019 10:33 am

Just interested to see which players are flavour of the month for a league one battle among us fans, the poll allows you to vote for as many players as you want, there are Three I've not even included (Adeyemi, Donacien & Dawkins) as I don't see them ever playing for us and I have obviously not included the loan players we currently have.

The squad is smaller and poorer than I thought going through that!

We also don’t really know who is in the U23squad. There will be s fair few coming through from that little gem basket I think.
Interesting how little Bart has scored so far isn’t it.

Great survey and one which will be interesting to see the varying views.
For me personally and basing my views on limited funds being available for mass change, i'd keep the central defensive staff (including keepers) but look to use Wolfenden more, alongside an experienced CB (Chambers).
Midfield is where i think the future is in the youth. Bishop, Downes, Dozzell and Nydam are must keeps, complimented by Judge and Edwards (playing at his level). Skuse (and i am a fan of his, for the record) would be replaced as i think the midfield needs freshening up and he should not be the future.
Up front I would take Harrison, Lankester and Sears. Some might take exception to Sears being included (bearing in mind my choice on Skuse), and i do not see him as the future! However, i like his work rate, he tracks back, which would help our younger defenders, he would certainly pose problems to league 1 defences too, i feel. There is no room for Jackson for me. He is quick granted, but the very few times i have seen him, his positioning and timings of runs leave a lot to be desired. I would want players who could hit the ground running should we achieve an automatic Champuonship return, and i just have not seen that in Jackson. Others like Edwards would be more like squad players who could help us to get back, but would only be a fringe player back in the championship.

Kinda says it all from our votes. Have to say I agree entirely with Rossis selection. Hlf the current squad should be culled and if im honest Im not even sure Lambert can bring us up Again. There will be some big teams in League one NeXT season, and its by all Means far from a normality that we will come up Again at the first attempt.

pretty much as everyone else.

Edwards has disappointed after a bright start as has Nolan all season.

I have still voted for them think they may be ok in league 1

Looks like Mike has voted for Knudsen more than once

Results make for interesting reading. Voted for six players to remain on the payroll but won't disclose which ones at time of writing. There's a lot of dead weight there for sure, many names that seem - or are - surplus here and there's going to be further to and fro's in the upcoming close season.

Problem is, with Evans remaining in ownership and limited funds at the managers disposal it's going to take something extraordinary to regain second league status with the potential caliber of names that can, or will, be brought in.

Looks like enough votes have been made to post this, an easier way to view. Don't know if it's worth analysing too much, but the main thing that strikes me is that out of the players that most are keen to keep, only Chambers has played a meaningful amount of games for the club, certainly recently (and he is 33). Looking at this thread has shocked me, the squad is woefully poor/young/injury prone, I guess that equates to 24th in the Championship, but I was expecting a bit more hope.

plus - I would go all out to get the following who are at present loanees/STLs:

Quaner
Chalobah
Pennington

Keane (undecided atm but might be worth a punt at the right price)
Judge (undecided about him, too, but have to say he looked much better last night)

I think Chalobah is a quality player and Quaner very good too, unfortunately I don't see them in League One. I thought Judge was excellent last night once he got his delivery right which for the first 30mins and against Norwich was dreadful.

I wondered about them in League 1 as well - Chalobah I think might well be persuaded considering he would het precious little game time at Chelsea, possibly game time might well be a good enough carrot for Quaner too

Would love to see all the loanees TBH but may be unrealistic, don't see Chalobah or Pennington as first choice at their respective clubs so they may be available again as loans, but not to us I would imagine

The problem Town will have in League One is the increased financial restrictions, surely ?!

We wouldn’t have the money to buy any of those three listed, let alone pay their wages. So I feel it’s s non starter .
