of my Uncle, Peter Dolby.

Had a call this morning to say he had died in his sleep early this morning.

Until this point I have always know that he was a professional footballer with Shrewsbury Town, but I had not realised, probably because he was just my Uncle, just what high regard he was held by the club and the supporters. It was probably only an hour after I had heard that news was hitting the club website.

I never knew until today that he was a one club man - 15 years - and that he was one of the first players to be inducted to the clubs Hall of Fame when it was set up in 2011. He apparently also had an uncanny knack of scoring vital cup goals and was part of the Shrewsbury team that reached the semi final of the inaugral League Cup in 1961 scoring both goals that knocked out Everton in the 5th round.

God Bless and God Speed to a fine old professional.

Sorry to read of your loss, Todd.

Looking at the photo in the link; had he not made it in football, he could’ve been a 007. Very striking features.

RIP Uncle Peter

Cheers all.

Seeing the outpouring of love and rememberance via Social Media has given me a new insight to the man he was.

It is equally divided between those old enough to remember him as a footballer and those that remember him as being one of the best teachers they ever had, helping them on their way in life with humour and sage advice.

It’s very clear that your Uncle Peter was a lovely man who touched many peoples lives in many different ways. I’m sure he will remembered fondly by them all.

My thoughts are with you and your family who must feel blessed to have shared their lives with him.
