Personally speaking , I DO want a team battered 10-0,( preferably “ them” up the road. How sweet would that be!), but I’ll take any team getting done by double figures. 25 years as the
“ holders” of an unwanted record is long enough !

Could hardly read the relevant text provided for f**king adverts and commercials (see TWTD) but remember the occasion well. Six years previous Palace had been beaten by the same score but that was old Division One not the EPL as we know it. Always say the irony of that game was beating them 3 - 2 at Portman Road a few months before and of course the win at Anfield that same season. Not sure if Forrest was in goal that day as Adam Tanner is the prominent name you remember.

94 - 95 was a memorable season for a variety of reasons. You had the George Graham scandal, Cantona's escapades at Selhurst Park, a number of players involved in betting scams and wrongful behavior, Spurs point deduction and prohibited from the FA Cup competition (later overturned on appeal) not to mention the Ireland / England game in Dublin that resulted in chaos. Best abiding memory being some weeks after the 9 - 0 result being present at the national stadium to see them beaten in an FA Cup Final. Redemption occurs in many ways but that particularly instance stands out on a high plateau.

I don't worry too much about what happened at Old Trafford that day. It's in the past and it occurred you can't amend what happened but as before other teams have suffered by a similar score and one last time we did get hit by ten back in the 1960's. I don't think we were the worst EPL team in '95 in history despite that score or where we finished. Swindon the year before were probably more of a shambles and as mentioned victory at Liverpool and beating United at home the previous fall did provide some honorable moments in an otherwise lame season that many would choose to forget or overlook.

I think it’s stupid that that Palace 9-0 loss isn’t mentioned in the same breath as Towns. Yes it was in the “ First Division” whilst our occurred in the “Premier League”, but for ffs it’s just an advertising / sponsorship NAME given to the same level of division. It’s the same division all bar the name . Palaces 9-0 drubbing has been equal to Towns loss for years but never been given the same exposure!

A name like Perry Suckling was just asking for trouble. Irony is Palace proved to be a very effective unit by the end of that season, beating their tormentors in an FA Cup semi-final and very nearly winning the damn thing in the Final event. The ace card was Nigel Martyn who by then had replaced the disgraced Suckling and went on to establish himself as not only an international player but an all-round team player.

Back to '89 eight different Liverpool players scored in that game and it were Aldridge's last game for the club, not something that everyone would realize. Hardly mentioned also is Arbroath's 36 goal win in the Scottish Cup back in 1885. That would be a record for a British competitive game, something that may never be duplicated. Just for the record, the opposition Bon Accord were in fact a cricket team masquerading as a "football" side and played in their working clothes. Arbroath keeper did not touch the ball once during the entire contest, the opposition goalkeeper had not played a competitive game before was injured before half-time and replaced with a defender.

Bizarrely on the same day Dundee Harps overcame Aberdeen Rovers by 35 - 0 missing the target by one goal. Just for the record.
