Not a bad performance from any player today. Our midfield 3 dominated until the substitutions. All three looked a class above today. Both judge and Huws had their best games.

The system clearly suits us and judge playing central makes a big difference to his game and it was pleasing to see him score. Huws gives us a bit more physical presence, he looked really sharpe today.

Will Keane also looked much sharper when he came on for Jackson. It was great to see the front 4 all score today.

Last 20 mins we stopped passing the ball and knocked it long, this was when AS had their only real spell of pressure and led to the goal. Looked a pretty soft penalty at first sight and wont be changing my view after seeing the highlights.

Let’s hope we can kick on from here.

A great performance. Really enjoyed the game as well as the result.

Everyone played well. The real differences in my opinion were:

1. We got more men forward. The strikers aren't so isolated as the whole defence moved up and individually they all made forward runs. Judge played in a true no. 10 role giving the strikers support. We had men getting forward wide so the strikers could stay closer together.

2. We moved forward at pace. No taking 15 seconds to decide what to do. We played balls behind the defence quickly.

Admittedly we couldn't have done (2) if Accrington had sat back and defended. The early goal was crucial as it gave us some badly needed confidence as well.as ensuring Accrington had to push up a bit.

It's only one game but it was lovely to see. Over the last year or so I think Skuse has played some ofhis best football since he joined us. But I have to say I wonder if we would have done (1) or (2) had he been playing. The midfield were key to our success. Having said that, Chambers and Woolfie were great, and the strikers were running their guts out. So good to see the front 3 and sub striker all scoring.

Perfect summary.

It was noticeable seeing woolfy and chambers running beyond the the ball. PL mentioned this in his post match interview saying it’s something they have worked on.

Great result but what a few weeks ahead? Oxford, Rotherham, Peterborough and Sunderland... after that, we can take a breath and think about what may be for the season... COYB's!!!!

It could just be the case Johnny, early days but play like that first half and we'll be fine, I know it doesn't matter but having watched it several times now how on earth was that a penalty?

Well that performance brought a smile to mine and my boys faces at last. Without doubt the best 45 mins I have seen all season. Norwood goal was very well taken, I stand right behind where he lobbed it over the keeper and it was not an easy goal to take. He should have had more, but I like how greedy he is becoming, he defo wants more. Second half tailed off, but it was bound to really and the pen. Was very very soft. The guy just fell over backwards with the slightest of touches. If we keep hold of woolfie I will be very surprised. The guy was immense in the match and his run to set up the first goal was a joy to watch. He’s and England international in waiting. Huws was great, judge at last impressed and even Edwards had a good game, he is much better going forward rather than defending.

If we 0lay with that level of intensity, we are going to be very tough to deal with by any team in this league. Maybe the corner has been turned, maybe we needed the sh*t period to get back to where we need to be. I really don’t know for sure, but yesterday gave me hope and confidence that things are going in the right direction. COYB.

It's incredible that we are pretty much back in pole position after a solitary win, if we have been bad others must have been worse, I can see Rotherham as the only team who may be able to stop us winning the league if we perform as we can, I.E. first half yesterday, Accrington did look awful to be fair but had been on an excellent run and near the top of the form table so maybe we should give ourselves a bit of credit for taking them apart. I still say no team in this division can match our squad strength.

AC were supposed to be an in form side weren’t they ?

Town could.... should be out of sight in this division . But I get feeling PL is almost treating it like a “half a season “, season. Eg, get through to Xmas with least number of injuries , and reduced minutes in the legs of players , whilst hoping your better players get back to full fitness . Then (hopefully) still be in touch with leaders and make a run for home as they say in second half of season with your best 15 players ?!

Nice post nic, and fully agree.
On Downes / Woolfie, I think it will have to be a bloody good offer for either player to leave in this window. I hope we can keep both of them until next season at least but it’ll get harder and harder as they improve .

Could be, although it’s a risky plan.... if it comes off he will be genius, if not..... we all know what he will be called

Poor old Skusey gets the blame. TBH - I can see the point. He seems programmed to hold up play a bit too long and plays it too often safely backwards or square. It was great to see quick ball played to forward runners. Makes all the difference when players instantly spot a quick pass and an opportunity to break in number.
I’m happy for Skuse to be on the bench and add a bit of protection when needed, but I’m not sure he’s now going to be seen as an automatic starter. I have a feeling he’ll start against Oxford though as I don’t think Lambert trusts Huws to play Saturday-Tuesday yet.

I certainly wasn't blaming Skuse. He has struggled with injuries for the last 18 months or so but is still a solid player, probably our most consistent last season. However, two of his strengths - holding up play and keeping possession - weren't needed yesterday as we got more men forward and moved the ball more quickly. If we don't do those things we need him for just those attributes. As you say I'd definitely want him on the bench for games where we need those skills.

I have always been a big fan of Skuse but it is plain to see he is now feeling it and is getting left behind by the likes of Downes, he is no more than squad player now for me with the odd cameo to see out games.

From an attacking perspective you can’t have Downs and Skuse in the team. Yesterday highlighted this with Huws playing his best game of the season. The injury to Nolan has given Huws this opportunity. Let’s hope he can cope with another game Tuesday. Coz any sign he can’t and PL will change it.

PL has on occasions seemed to substitute players with the next game in mind, if so it looks as if judge and Huws will start midweek.

Lambert is very much pacing the squad isn’t he. It doesn’t sit easy with us fans....but PL will be judged at the end of the season I guess, on whether he called it right.

As the years breeze by, that very statement in itself could provide the answer to why there’s a minority who are angry. And it’s an answer that could be invaluable in creating understanding between the optimigos and the pessimistas.

Ipswich Town FC fans in the recent past have had to deal with a club like Bournemouth “call back” Ryan Fraser from loan duty. Bournemouth?? That very scenario x 10 whereby Ipswich Town have become the feeder club over the years has created resentment. Can’t speak for everyone, definitely not, but it’s understandable to me.
I can see some fans read, “hopefully we can keep them as they improve” and feel like smashing their keyboard. NOT a dig at you Hallam, not at all, you’re just stating facts.....
but can 100% understand anger created by these facts.

I too can see Woolfy and Downes heading off either soon or seasons end. Promotion will be the ONLY thing that could possibly keep them onboard. Get to the EPL Marcus, and all the “stars” stay. And the Bournemouth, Burnley, Wigan, Watford, Stoke, Huddersfield Crystal Palace, Brighton (FFS 🤦‍♂️) “stars” ALL want to play for Ipswich Town FC. Even the “stars” playing for the female cook up the road from Ipswich ————> all go to IPSWICH TOWN FC.

Like I said, not a “trapped in the past” post. Merely a post understanding the pessi’s when this subject of keeping players pops up.

We couldn’t have had a better result as a pre-runner to these games. Let’s hope that’s a corner turned, a confidence booster and the start of a run of decent form with good results.

Well done Town, we all needed that uplift.

If we can get a ton of loot for them now (like 15m+) then maybe otherwise nah they're too good. I think if at the end of the season Town get promoted then they should stay. If we don't, fair dos, you can't blame them for offski. But Town are a championship club really so there's no point going to another, like Fulham or QPR. And if at any time IMO if premier clubs come calling, then you can't blame them for wanting to pit themselves against the best.

I think if we got £3m for the pair of them we’d be lucky. In my opinion best to hang onto as their value can only go up and in the meantime their wages are unlikely to be prohibitive.

Selling either for that would be spectacularly bad business. They're worth more both as investments and to us now. 15m each we could probably use wisely.
