Two teams in shocking form, probably 0-0 draw. By the way DB it’s being played Tuesday not tonight so don’t go searching for the result later.
I expect Wycombe to fall away, so I wouldn’t worry if they beat Posh. A draw, for me, would be best. I’d prefer to meet Wycombe in the play-offs than Posh. Posh are in terrible form, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they put some results together later in the season.

If you look at Wycombe Wanderers fixtures in February there’s every chance they can pick up a decent number of points without extending themselves. Very different to what Peterborough have coming up in terms of fixtures in February, over a three week period WW’s play against three teams in the bottom four, MK Dons, Tranmere Rovers and Bolton Wanderers.

With this in mind I think it would suit us best for a Peterborough win tonight.
Think this one is going to plan. TBH it’s highly unlikely either of these teams will be in the mix come the end of the season.

Imagine if we needed a million points to get promoted...f*ck me we only need 998,000 points to go up...no problem. :D

It could look even better in a weeks time. I expect us to beat Lincoln because I think the team wants to avenge that 5-3 result - and we should beat them. The Rotherham game is a toughie. I’d be happy with a point, but no reason why we can’t go for the win. They outmuscled and outfought us and deserved to win at PR and so the players need to step up. Be a good test.

I certainly expect us to stay in the Top 3 for a while Tang, however we’ll have to be on guard not to get sucked into complacency given that after the Rotherham game, along with The Millers and Wycombe we’ll have all played 28 games, two more than the chasing pack of Coventry, Sunderland, Oxford and Pompey all on 26 played. It will take until close on to the end of February for this to even out and all teams be within one game of one another.

They did. Now we just need Peterborough to repeat their Wycombe performance against Rotherham and for us to scrape a win against Lincoln.......

We need to capitalise on that result DB and make sure we bag three points today. We play Sunderland at The Stadium of Light two weeks today and it would be nice if we could widen the points gap between us between now and then.

Well Posh have started well by taking an early lead with a 2nd minute goal from leading scorer Ivan Toney.

Blimey, Posh 2-0 up now on 22 mins. This would really help us if we can win today.

Other than they’d come to Portman Road on a high next Saturday.

With Rotherham, Peterborough and Sunderland to play in the next 14 days we are very much in control of our own destiny, at least for the time being with only Coventry able to get past us on the same number of games played.

Posh beating Rotherham helped us, but now Posh have put themselves back in the mix. Not sure what’s going down at Posh, but wouldn’t rule them out.

As said already, it’s up to us to shape our own destiny from now on. I think we have been fortunate in that we’ve kept in touch during the extended blip as a couple of clubs could have put a run together and put a real gap between us and them.

Some big games coming up and I’m feeling confident we can turn over some of our rivals. It would be not only 3 more points in a six-pointer, but a great confidence boost if we beat Rotherham. We haven’t done very well against top sides yet, but a great time to change that at Rotherham. I’d take a draw, but we should be going for three points.

I think it is fair to say the likes of Rotherham, Sunderland, Coventry and Wycombe have also been very very fortunate we had a blip or it would be all them chasing runners up spot now.

It looks like whichever Club can trawl the most points out playing each other ( as you say , ”Rotherham, Peterborough and Sunderland to play in the next 14 days ”), but so do we. Whichever Club(S), achieve this will I’d suggest be promoted.

The next 4-5 games I think really will be pivotal t9 our promotion hopes. If we fail to maximise points haul, I think we will be chasing a playoff place.

I think we could go the rest of the season unbeaten at Portman Road with wins v Lincoln ✅, Peterborough, Fleetwood, Portsmouth, Southend, Bolton, Rochdale and Mk.Dons. A further three home draws v Burton, Oxford and Coventry would give us 27 home points.

Away I think we could pick up wins at Tranmere ✅ and Wimbledon especially if we can relearn how to pull off 0-1 wins away from home. I see draws at Blackpool, Bristol Rovers, Shrewsbury and Doncaster and defeats at the hands of Rotherham United✅ and Sunderland. If my predictions are correct we could expect a further 10 away points making a total of 37 points.

Add these to the 42 we already have and our season total would be 79 which I think would mean a place in the play offs.

Somewhere along the way I think we’d need at least one of my predicted draws to be a Town win, even this could still leave us short with 81 points.

What this detailed look at our remaining fixtures tells me, is that automatic promotion won’t come on a plate and will require a lot of hard work by our manager and the players.
Still on course with three ticks, but after last nights poor showing the plan looks a little fragile.

We are still on course and as poor as we were it's really changed nothing, we have to hold our nerve though and not panic, the previous 4 or 5 performances had been very good, let's park last night and move on.

I agree with that to a point ie not panic, put it aside and get back on the horse. But I think it does change things. If we’d have put in a good performance and won / drawn we’d be taking that as a massive boost. I’d even be OK with a hard-fought loss.
What gets me is how easily we were beaten. That was a big game - apart from the points on offer, we could have made a statement with a good performance. We were lucky it wasn’t a hiding. And Lambert’s comments didn’t inspire. He talked about how he knew Rotherham were physical and would play a certain way, yet I didn’t see any real plans to combat that. I didn’t see any tactical changes or players working things out after 20 mins or so. We just seemed clueless and looked like a team a league or two below Rotherham - not a team leading the division.
A win against Posh at the weekend will straighten things out, but after that performance I’m hoping Posh will have one of their off-day’s because I’m not sure our team has the character or nous to beat good sides.

Sunderland’s win at Tranmere tonight really puts the cat amongst the pigeons...and makes the outcome of our next two fixtures v Peterborough and Sunderland even more importan. I really hope PL can get more out of his players than he did last night because that’s what good managers do. So far he’s fallen woefully short getting his players to perform in the big games and that’s what really matters.

Well the Plan has well and truly imploded and in a shocking manner too. Sadly if we can’t get anything out of a game v Peterborough we probably won’t get anything again when Pompey come to Town. Forgetting that if we were to get back on track my predicted end of season tally would be 76 points, I know this could still be play off territory but is there anyone out there who would back us in the play off’s cos I certainly wouldn’t.

Don’t give up yet, this is far from over.

What’s interesting is Fleetwoods next two fixtures are against Portsmouth and Sunderland, hopefully they can work in our favour, two draws maybe.

Fleetwood also come to Portman Road on 3rd March, two days after Sunderland travel to Coventry who in turn come to Ipswich four days later.

Many twists and turns are still ahead of us,

Because its the first time since before I was born that Ipswich Town FC have been in the third tier, I have genuinely never had the need to look how tight previous third tier seasons have been. This season is very tight. For anyone in the know..... are they usually tight or are the top 2 usually streets ahead by mid February?

This season is really tight Marko with no team running away with it. In the last six seasons the runner up team has scored between 91 and 96 points whereas at the moment 80 points looks likely to be the threshold unless one or two teams put in a decent late rally.

If only Town could get their act together like today we could well be on for 75 points which should get u# into the play offs. However many games like Tuesdays at Wimbledon and we’ll end up mid table. Our home form will definitely dictate where we finish.

Issue seems void as believe the team won't finish within the top two. Not much in it in way of points but the top six above have the same ideas and objective and will be fighting just as hard as anyone else with the opportunity.

Took the time to view last three seasons within this league and top two teams and points tally went as follows :

Luton 94, Barnsley 91
Wigan 98, Blackburn 96
Sheffield United 100, Bolton 86

All hypothetical for us of course but guessing a minimum of 85 will ensure an auto place and 95 should confirm it. We're just over 50 with about twelve fixtures remaining. 36 points available which could push it to around 88 but would need to win each game from here on. Just seems improbable that we'll do it. Team's too inconsistent and we have trouble beating those in the top ten, wish I could be more hopeful but think we've left too much to do and in not enough time to do it.

Dear oh dear...we’re only 5 points from the top. If we play like that against any opposition we’ll win. I may change my mind, but I feel like somethings brewing in the locker room. Lambert obviously motivated the players tonight, and I think he may have struck a nerve. Judge & Jackson certainly show signs of a good kick up the arse. What do I know after all, I’m the nothing special one. :D
