Just too old now for me, the game has changed and moved on, he's been out of it a long long time.

Agree, it could only be a short term replacement

I’ve always wondered what a Director of Football really does? I’d imagine a manager would see a director as someone likely to meddle in his affairs. Its hardly a vote of confidence getting a Director of Football in. It pretty much says the manager can’t cope. I can see it working when you’ve got an inexperienced manager who needs guidance, but surely Lambert would see it as a lack of trust in himself and a kick in the balls.
As Charnwood says, can we even afford to add to the wage bill?

Judging by that new away kit, maybe we need a Director of Uniforms!

True story...... years ago when John Collins was manager at Easter Road, we were all at an AGM @ the Hibs Club........ the chairman was talking away about various things then uttered the words “..... and a new director of football”, to which a fan amongst us audibly said in a raised voice, “Aw fk off, no way! You serious?!”
The room was probably 85/15 in favour of NO “director of football” and the feeling was that John himself runs the show.

Aren't they one of those middle figures that act between manager and board level. More prominent on the continental scene maybe. Is there one here, kind of lost focus what with the league break up and all.

What was the issue to begin with attempt to bring in Royle once again ? Wouldn't work, too much time has passed since the last involvement, more than likely separated from the game now in just about every capacity and imagine more focused on gardening stuff. Think returned to Oldham for one last hurrah after leaving here although may be incorrect.
