Politics Forum - Yes/No?

So Folks,

Do you want a sub forum for Politics/Contentious Issues?

I don't envisage much moderation being offerred so 'enter at your peril' so to speak.

Let me know.

cheers Dave

Have voted No on this.

Personally i feel we already have a sub-section where all "Non"-football matters can and should be discussed. Football is very much "all encompassing" these days, therefore sadly it does involve politics (and much more). You could argue where does "football" end, and "politics" start? Covid is a prime example of this, in that many decisions relating to it are reliant on Government policy.
Perhaps a good way to decide on whether a topic is "non" football related, is to ask is the subject prevalent in other sports and walks of life? I.e. Politics, Discrimination, Etc. If the answer is yes, then these subjects should generally be kept out of the ITFC section. I appreciate there is always going to be a fine line.

Perhaps if a contributor can consider where their comment is likely to lead, then this can help to alleviate any potential flash point.

This is the only forum without that area. Well, forums I go on. Only 4 others. There’s a politics area. Some real non moderated opinions and it can clear the air....... and sometimes create death threats. 🤷‍♂️.
Its the 2020’s...... death threats? Like water aff a ducks back!

I jest, but discussing politics should be in a designated place. In my religiously political opinion. A case of “have at it” if you venture in. Fairly confident people would be able to discuss and remain civil. And respectfully disagree.

Personally I would say no!
If that other site is anything to go by you just get a clique that will not listen to any opinion that doesn’t go with their agenda.
Keep the site clear of that bollards I say.

Jaysus H, with Jacko and Azzurro saying no AND it currently being a close run thing at 5-4, maybe people can’t even agree on the area ITSELF , prior to the debating area even being created!
Genuinely thought it’d be overwhelming in the “y” column.

This is a hard one for me because as many of you know I'm a big supporter of free speech. However, I think the forum does need to be moderated if things get out of hand. For example, death threats and/or threats of violence should not be condoned. If that was the case with Mach_Polish or any other members that have been banned, I didn't see that...and I apologize to Frosty if that is the case. So I vote yes for a political forum, but I vote no for threats of violence.

Personally i think another sub-forum dilutes things too much. The "non-football" section already contains debate on a whole host of subjects, surely this section is the best area for such debates?

To add further credence to this point of view; Only 3 posts have been made within the last month, and one of those was from Frosty!

Currently 60/40 in favour. Let's hope it doesn't reach 52/48 or all hell might break loose.

Well I think it'd just spill over in to bile and hatred sadly. We already have enough to disagree on and argue about I think!

Oh yes. Probably without intending to do so, Frosty has created a post which has brought out some great Tractor-boys humour at its best. Really good to see :D

 12-6 No!

None of you Question Time fans then?

Totally cool. Think that’s been answered quite convincingly.

The good thing to come of all this Mike is maybe people pm-Ing a mod when offended will stop. They can just be quietly offended. I mean this was a chance to have a designated area to AVOID, if need be.

Ok....... back to “Paul Lambert is sh*t and he hasn’t got a f**king clue what a formation is before a competitive ball is kicked” chat. 👍

I have to agree. I voted yes.... but then after reading a few comments and thinking more... what are we actually voting for?

Maybe the mods can explain what type of complaints they get? Is it mostly because someone is upset over political comments or a naughty word or a bit of personal handbags or some smuttiness?

My main concern is if there’s a no-holds bar area set up, then would the bar on the main forum be set lower. ie would it become a bit Mary Poppingsish and too inoffensive and boring - with some people then complaining that certain topics or comments should be then sent to the contentious area. Sounds like you might end up with with apartheid - with some living in ghettoes and some in their ivory towers.

More I think of it, I’d prefer it how it is - but with more people making posts and perhaps less people making unnecessary complaints to the mods. It’s a free site and the mods don’t get paid for it ( I think). Cut them some slack.

I think politics is best left out. As we have seen with BLM we all have our own opinions and i don't think any debate will change anyone's mind. Similarly brexit, the current government and anything else. So it just becomes pointless.

Ok, my last word on it by way of example......

Fans aren't allowed back into stadiums as yet. But that day is fast approaching across the UK. The "taking a knee" demonstration will no doubt continue and everyone will be witness to it, and be part of it.

Disclaimer: How you feel or react at games is up to you. No one is interested.

BUT ON HERE, some, (not all) but some may feel they want to discuss that. Is it to be discussed on the matchday preview thread? Because if the forum is all about freedom of speech then it should be just that. No threads being locked because there are "handbags". Threads are guaranteed to be locked. Does the forum go the way of some forums and say, "No political, religious or racism chat allowed"....... a bit like, "No chewing gum in class".

Disclaimer 2: Racism chat & Racist chat are two completely different things.

I get the feeling that there are a lot of people on this forum that will touch wet paint when there is a sign saying "WET PAINT". If politics or anything political isn't your thing, then DON'T enter. It is as simple as that.

Quite a large amount viewed this thread already so probably not going to get many more votes. I'd suggest to the thread author to run it a week then lock this one.

Yep totally agree, all we will get is a lot of hot air for nothing.

I wouldn’t mind a Politics sub forum, I’d be really interested to try to understand why anyone would vote for Brexit, or indeed if those who voted for Boris, would vote for him again given his performance since the election.

This could be a test to see how well it would work. 😛
