Bristol got even worse.

Seriously, they seemed to run out of energy. We deserved to win but only because they were awful.

Top of the league though.

Our substitutions made a difference plus our passing and possession improvrd big time after the break, Nolan had a cracking second half while Edwards, Dozzell, Toto also had decent games. Well deserved in the end.

Well not a classic. First half very boring. Second half started much the same but with 25 mins to go town looked a different team. Passing and movement improved. The own goal really helped and hawkins missed a great chance in the six yard box with a header that went wide. Nice to see nolan score after playing some good stuff today.

Much better second half, strength from the bench told today, substitutions at the right time, Hawkins missed a sitter. Edwards looked lively all game. Dozzell did some good defensive work today. Top draw away performance.

And to top it off we are top!!

That move on left from Dozzell where Hawkins missed. Wonderful play from Dozzell. That would have been a fantastic goal.

Deserved in the end. BR were terrible in the second half, but maybe that was down to us and good to see we wanted it more.

For me, Nolan MOTM. Looking a different player.

Loving the start to the season from my new home in Vietnam

we were top last season after what 14 games ? But it was without playing great, it may only be Two games in but we look so much more assured and I think there could be much more improvement to come, quietly optimistic

Obviously didn’t fade away second half as well unlike last year.

It may not have been a classic but a win is a win and you can only play what’s in front of you. It’s always good to get off to a good start and this season Paul Lambert appears to see the value of starting with a fairly settled line up with only one unforced change.

Good to get a win. Bristol's passing accuracy was 67%, ours was 76%. So although ours was poor, theirs was atrocious with one out of three going astray.

First half was dire. We improved a bit second half but mostly it was Bristol getting worse. Our defence did ok although they weren't up against much. On the ball we hit so many long aimless balls from the back.

Dozzell and Nolan had good games, Bishop wasn't really in it. We created a couple of chances second half, one cleared off the line and a header that we should have scored from.

Certainly not getting carried away. Although we were the better side that isn't saying much. The goals sum up Bristol's incompetence. The first was an own goal from a cross that should have been cleared easily. The second was well taken but an opponent passed backwards badly to a teammate who missed it , the ball going straight to Lankester. Two gifts.

We won't have many poorer opponents this season.

I bet Sunderland weren't saying that last week.

Really pleased with our midfield. We seem to be getting it together in that area. Not sure how our defence played, but looking at that back four it looks “ solid”on paper. We’re they tested much today or not, anyone know?

Whatever, it’s 3 more points in the bag, and winning creates confidence and can become a habit.

Just a minor point ....The EFL commentator said Town hadn’t won at Rovers since 1948.....er , what about 1978 FA Cup game , playing with an orange ball and a snow covered pitch ! ( game shouldn’t really have gone ahead in truth and we got out of jail that day too.

He must have been referring to the League only Liz, cup encounters not applicable. 1948, f*ck that was around the time of Roswell, didn't realize we hadn't won there for such time.

Were pleased to learn we got the victory. Reports indicate Bristol were largely ineffective but you still got to go out and find reward. Team has two wins in quick succession against the opposition, five goals for us and none in return, you got to take plaudits where they're at. Rochdale now seems so winnable you can't look beyond three points but respect to them I'm not getting too far ahead.

Top position is mighty encouraging but it's simply two games in. Make judgments at the proper time and evaluate things. Last season proved a lesson after such an encouraging start, not getting too far ahead this time around (as) there's still so much to come and things to achieve.

No Liz the defence weren't overly tested but that's Bristol Rovers concern not ours, maybe our midfield were instrumental in making that happen. That said Toto is definitely much improved and Wilson solid.

I know statistics don't tell the whole story. But Sunderland had 72% possession, 25 shots to Bristol's 5. They bossed the game.... I imagine Bristol tried to defend having been gifted a penalty after 3 minutes but even so I maintain they look a very poor side.

It’s too early to make judgements.... and BR look, this early in the season, weaker than they were last season... but there’s cause for optimism.
At this point, I’m pleased with the contribution of the midfield. Nolan and Dozzell look comfortable taking the ball and linking attack. That was a definite improvement from last season. Good to see midfielders getting on the scoresheet as I think we might struggle with goals up front. Maybe Hawkins or Drinan are more suited to this formation than Norwood, as the central striker seems more of a link man or hold up player, than a goalscorer. Norwood needs to be scoring goals as he likes to be the main man scoring goals and gets frustrated when he’s not getting chances.
I can’t see anyone getting carried away yet, but why not enjoy the win as there’ll be plenty of bumps in the road later on.

Well if it is only about League games, quite likely as you say, but the thing is Town and BR we’re rarely in the same division . So his statement I think, was very misleading.



Mike. Thanks for that . I think just about everyone is being very cautious about how our season will go. We started very well last season. But from the little I’ve seen this season, we do appear to be playing with more freedom and less huff and puff to secure the points compared tp last season. But the thin thing that will really tell if Town are to be reckoned with this season, is if we match and beat any of the top six . We failed at every point in that area last season.

Having watched the highlights I've changed my opinion slightly. I still think Bristol were terrible and we player fat too many long high balls from the back. But the h8ghlights show that we created s4veral good chances. some saved, some blocked, one cleared off the line and a couple missed.

Still think it was a poor game but we very much were the better side.
