Great manager for the Republic of Ireland. Could just have easily reached the Final game of both Euro 88 and Italy 1990 under different circumstance. World Cup winner and should have won more at domestic level with Leeds had not been for part of a cynical, argumentative team. Possessed considerable awareness and the game is poorer for a recent passing. Not a legend as such but a workmanlike effective unit nonetheless.

We watched it last night and fully endorse your thoughts Bluejacko. Clearly he had a great time managing the Republic and to be honest I’d forgotten how long he was in post or indeed all of his successes. Sad how dementia took hold in later life but even more sad is the rift with brother Bobby especially given how much they had in common.

There's a program also Saturday night April 3 featuring Bobby Moore, BBC1 11.50 if so inclined.

A 90 minute showcase of past achievements you'd imagine, The World Cup, theft allegation in Colombia was it, swansong with Fulham 1975 FA Cup Final et cetera. Lost to the game far too early from cancer he remains an icon of sorts to the British or even World stage. A pleasant and engaging individual also. Was he knighted ? can't quite recall but worth a watch if you can catch it.
