It just had to be Colchester didn't it, there will be a few players out there to prove a point for sure. I wonder how seriously Paul Cook will take this competition?
Town have been drawn alongside Gillingham and Colchester in their Papa John’s Trophy group.
The Blues will discover which category one academy side will join them in Southern Group A when the draw takes place live on Sky Sports at 4.30pm on Thursday afternoon.
The fourth team in the group will one of Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur or West Ham United.

Having played Gillingham at home in the competition last season, Town will face the Gills away this time around meaning the Colchester match and the game against the U21 side will be at Portman Road.
The U's squad contains plenty of ex-Blues players with former skipper Luke Chambers, Cole Skuse, Freddie Sears and Alan Judge having joined Tommy Smith, Tom Eastman and Dean Gerken at the JobServe Community Stadium with Frank Nouble also having moved back to North Essex this summer.
Town, the U's and Gills were previously in the same EFL Trophy group in 2019/20.
Town will learn their Carabao Cup opponents at 3.40pm tomorrow with the League One fixtures released at 9am.

If he has a squad of only 18 players then he won't have a choice but to use most of them.

Not sure I agree with these PL clubs being allowed to play their U23’s in these competitions. They’ve effectively got rid of the reserve league for all clubs outside of the PL.They don’t support the lower leagues financially to any meaningful level. So why should they cherry pick competitions to progress their players ( many of which have been “ stolen” from non PL clubs for a pittance).
Anyway….I’m getting down off my soapbox now

Think this will have added a major incentive to the new owners.

Paul Cook: "The Papa Johns trophy."
Mark Detmer: "A pizza trophy?"
Paul Cook: "No its a teams shitter than the EPL & Championship trophy,"
Brett Johnson: "WTF have we done."
Paul Cook: "No, no, no, its quite exciting."
Berke: "Yeah, whatever. We need the F outta this league."

This crap has got so trivialized not sure what competition we're even entered for here. League Cup under another stupid-as* name or something even less important and small prized. Why don't Cook or O'Leary just reach the FA and declare we got no interest in these things and we can sit this out.
It has to be the League or nothing in the season ahead. The FA Cup in January still holds some interest but realize ahead of time it'll be futile to be part of it once again. Be OK to field some of the juniors in the team or outside names / experiment formations, when regards the competition here is underway but can't look beyond it's a simple pointless endeavor that carries no privilege or interest in winning, let alone participating or being a part of.
