Re: League 1 - Ipswich Town vs Crewe Alexandra Preview & Matchday Thread
Great post verulam and some good memories to recall. I was in the North Stand for the record attendance game even though I was living in Norwich at the time and the atmosphere was fantastic. I missed the replay at Elland Road which was just too far to travel for a Tuesday night game although I did go to the second and third replays at Filbert Street, the later which was John Warks town debut. Until we beat WBA at Highbury a few years later the win against Leeds at Leicester that night was one of my most memorable FA Cup ties.verulam wrote: โSun Nov 28, 2021 2:54 pmEast Stand: That is a picture of the East Stand taken on its completion in August 1971. Within hours of the 1970-71 season ending an army of workmen began to dismantle the old wooden "chicken run", parts of which dated back to before the First World War, before painstakingly reconstructing it at Foxhall Stadium, the home of Ipswich Witches Speedway Team. In its place rose a 3,700 seater grandstand, 55 feet high and 255 feet wide complete with bar and restaurant, costing ยฃ180,000. Remarkably the project was completed in just 102 days and officially opened by Sir Alf Ramsey on the opening day of the season: 14th August 1971. I bought my first season ticket in the stand a couple of weeks later - it cost me ยฃ15.
The stand was extended in time for the 6th round FA cup tie against Leeds on 8th March 1975 with a record 38,010 spectators in the ground.
It would take 4 games before Town finally beat Leeds at a neutral venue: Leicester City's Filbert Street ground. No penalty shoot-outs in those days!

Holy sh*t Iโve missed the start thanks to the time difference which Iโve mis calculated. Next problem will be getting my grandson away from the tv watching Man City v West Ham.

I don't know, Crewe seem to be growing in confidence and pass the ball around quite well!

And there's not many players in this league that can do that
Get at them in the second let and don't let Crewe settle

As frustrating as Bersant is, he has a sublime ability to score a goal of that quality.

I believe before this season Celina hadn't scored for around two years and he certainly enjoyed that.

Iโm guessing sheโs a Leeds fan John, thank god she stayed away cos at that time I donโt think I could have afforded to go to a fourth replay.goldandblack wrote: โSun Nov 28, 2021 4:22 pmMy missus (All White) went to all those games v Leeds United except the last one where Leeds lost, still blames herself, Andy,Charnwood wrote: โSun Nov 28, 2021 4:16 pmGreat post verulam and some good memories to recall. At least Iโve now got the tv controls and can watch the second half.
Iโve not seen the second goal yet but some are talking about it being the best goal ever scored at Portman Road which takes some believing, but I guess it depends on how many years someone has been going there.

Itโs easier to watch in Spain than the UK, in fact you can watch every Saturday afternoon game.
