Sam Morsy seems to think he'll be signing a new deal.
Morsy Led to Believe Jackson Will Sign New Deal

Skipper Sam Morsy says he’s led to believe that striker Kayden Jackson will sign a new deal with Town.

Jackson is out of contract at the end of the season and manager Kieran McKenna recently intimated that new terms would be offered to the frontman, who joined the Blues from Accrington Stanley for £1.6 million in the summer of 2018.

The 28-year-old was out of favour under both Paul Lambert and Paul Cook but his Town career has undergone a renaissance since McKenna took over and he scored three times in six matches prior to suffering a hamstring injury which looks set to end his season.

Morsy, 30, was asked how the dressing room has been this season with a number of players who would feel they’re first team players either out of the XI or matchday 18 at any one time.

The Egypt international, one of the 19 players brought into the club last summer, cited Jackson as an example of how members of the squad have dealt with the situation.

“It’s been really good, to be honest, it’s been surprisingly good actually because there are all sorts of problems which can come from having a lot of good lads who are out of the squad and not playing,” Morsy said in an interview with The Athletic’s The Totally Football League Show (21 mins, 10 secs) in which he also talked about working with McKenna, adding goals to his game and Cook’s time at the club, as well as the Blues’ prospects for the remainder of the campaign.

“Probably Kayden Jackson [is the best example]. For a long part of the season, he didn’t get a sniff, wasn’t involved, but he carried himself really well, got on with his work, kept his head down, was quiet.

“Then the new manager’s come in, he’s had an opportunity, he’s done really well and he’s ended up getting injured.

“But I just thought that was a great example just because he wasn’t in the squad, he wasn’t involved but he maintained just being a really good professionals.

“And then when he did [get in the squad], he definitely took his chance. He’s out of contract in the summer and I’m led to believe he’s going to sign a new deal here, which is great for him.

“To be honest, the lads have conducted themselves really well. Even James Norwood as well, James Norwood has probably got an unfair reputation really.

“But again when he wasn’t playing, he was really good, even when he was with the U23s, he wasn’t negative, he was really good, then he’s come in, he’s taken his chance back in the team.

“All the lads who haven’t been involved, Woolfy [Luke Woolfenden] the same, all good lads. And it helps really because in football it can change fast and I think because these lads have behaved how they’ve behaved as soon as they’ve had a chance, everyone’s got right behind them.

“You can see at different clubs or when players act in a certain way when they’re not in the team, it’s easy to hold a grudge, the players will have some resentment towards them, but I can honestly say the lads have been great really, really easy.”

It's good news and kudos for Jackson - but I'm more pleased about Morsy talking about the squad in such a way. Good to hear Morsy talking as a skipper and someone who seems invested In us. There's a few fans ringing alarm bells that he might get offers from the Championship- and who knows, but he seems he's committed as much as a modern day footballer could be. Morsy's massive for us.

As for Jackson, if he's the type McKenna wants, I hope we're looking for similiiar but an upgrade on him for next season. That's no disrespect to Jackson, but can't see him being prolific for all his good work in running the channels

Yep Morsy looks the model professional and a very good captain, not to mention an excellent player who as you say is massive for us.

I'd be happy to see Jackson stay, he is definitely different and brings an alternative style to our play, however he will never be prolific and for that reason I hope our Two main strikers for next season are not yet at the club.

I seem to remember Jackson scored 11 goals and had 7 assists in the Championship in one season and KMc seems to be able to get the best out of him and others so I'll be happy to see him stay.

Jackson isn't good enough to feature above League One. It's just one persons viewpoint but would imagine would struggle to adapt or perform at a higher level. Only in recent time has he hit form for us or started regular appearances. Until then was all too anonymous.

At one time the club was in dire need of attacking options or strikers, lo and behold we now got a selection of names to choose from. Given the choice I'd wish for Jackson to stay irrespective of whether the team goes up this year or otherwise. Guess McKenna has found something in him that was hitherto missing with previous managers.

A useful player for us when (the) time arises, but as mentioned elsewhere far from what you could class prolific. Can only hope with McKenna's new found impetus the player can continue to regain or improve stature.

SJ: Jackson, Norwood, Piggott, and Bonne are not good enough for even Div 1 otherwise their scoring records would look a lot better than they are, Bonne's goals were an early fluke as he went completely off the boil for 20 plus games we honestly need to either promote from the under 23's or look to buy two or three quality strikers to replace the sh*t lot we have on our books at the moment. I think KM is hoping that all of a sudden the strikers will hit form and start scoring, Sorry KM that ain't going to happen so clear out the selected and start afresh plus get rid of Carroll and Thompson as well, you should have learned enough by now on what squad you want for next season and it starts upfront.

at one stage this season we were the league's highest scorers but you'd have to go back to some point end of last year to include it. This were at a time when Bonne could do no wrong but the player is a day and night contrast between then and now.

Burns is actually our second leading scorer this season for League. While a midfield player would it hurt to push him into attack for the last remaining games, say with Chaplin and, or Norwood to partner it. Bringing Celina back to the club was a good bit of business, he has contributed well. Another option to push forward but either McKenna or the fans won't go for it. Maybe it's just not viable.

As mentioned the highlighted players, in that, Pigott, Aluko and Jackson once again, are evidently not proficient enough. We got the striking options catered for, shame is they're basically sub-standard (and) can see a good number shipped out in the summer as they'll be deemed surplus for next season (in League One). Some have only been with us a short time but the need for replacements now is clearly evident.
