My Dad died 35 years ago at a fairly young age, and still not a day goes by when I dont think about him.
At the time, compassionate leave was in a fairly primitive state, and I remember I was given a week off work. After that I had to return, be professional, and do my job properly. It's sad when anynody goes through serious personal issues, but there is so much more help and support available these days - so to say that Dobbin had a bad season due to personal issues doesn't cut it at all for me - he's supposed to be a professional. I really hope this loan move comes off for him, and that he is able to put everything behind him and have the best season he can, but even if this is the case I don't expect us to have any cause for regret in letting him go.

Based on what we as fans of ITFC have seen it is 100% the correct decision, he was garbage and tbh everyone has adversity and loss in life but you carry on doing your job, I find that a bit of a weak excuse tbh, for a week or Two maybe but not an entire season.
Well all I shall say is it took me 3 years to “ deal “ with my mums death . Everyone is different of course. But I think “ a couple of weeks “, post death of your dad when you’ve just moved to a new job is a bit much to ask even for the most stoic of nature.

It’ll be interesting to see how he does, and he if he does come good , he’s still our player .

Ps anyone else sick n tired of reading “ Downes this, Downes that “ in the bloody EADT . What’s with the Downes Love-in by the local press?
The scrawny little spoilt brat soon chucked his toys out of the pram and downed tools when we wouldn’t sell him for peanuts to Palace. I’m sick of the sight of his face in the local rag tbh.
Liz, to this day I haven't got over losing my mum and she died 12 years ago, I don't think I ever will, the point I'm making is I think its a bit of an excuse to put his crap performances down to his loss over a prolonged period, the butcher, Baker and candlestick maker all sadly have to get on with life and their jobs no matter how hard that may be, of course I sympathise with the lad but sadly he was just pretty crap for us.
ah yes, I get that now.

It will be interesting to see what he does at Pompey wont it ... weve offloaded him for sure.

BlueMike, Hallam & Rossi, I agree with all of your comments, well said!

Life unfortunately goes on and you have to get on with it, the only thing you can do is do what your loved ones would of wanted, move on and enjoy life and do the best you can, sounds cheesy but thats what you have to do.

He has had a bad season, give him a move and hopefully he can get back to his best, we all want the best for each other after all.

I think with Leigh at LB and Penney as back up the need for Davis from Leeds is not so great, add to that Leeds main LB is out for 8 weeks so I don't see this one happening either.

Celina off to Stoke according to TWTD. Good from my perspective. Fantastic one game and then 5 anonymous games where he is not at it. On his salary, we can do without him and move on. Good luck to him and he was a great impact player but we can ill afford those in League 1.

20/21 L1 Blackpool 44 games 20 goals
21/22 Champ Blackpool 12 games 5 goals.

He could do a job for ITFC, Hallam. Definitely liking the sound of this signing. (If it happens)

Hope this happens…then we’ll just need to sign another striker named Tom.

Well, they’d certainly fight like cat and mouse if Kieron opts for one up front.

But, can’t really be any worse than the pussy’s available last season.

Well if this Jerry Yates link is believable then he is going to need a bit of persuading, and daresay a decent fee (if Wiki is correct)....

Yates ended the 2020–21 season as Blackpool's top scorer, with 23 goals. 20 of those came in the League, which is the joint-highest total scored by a Blackpool player since Andy Watson in 1993–94.[15]

Yates was voted the PFA Fans' Player of the Year for the 2020–21 League One campaign.[16] He signed a new three-year contract with the club on 23 July 2021. It included an option for a further twelve months.[17]

According to the web his salary is around 6k a week, so that is do able and likely we'd go upto 10k - which might tempt him.

Blackpool seem quote low payers it seems.

The Blackpool fans seem to think Yates being sold is not gonna happen for less than 2 million, others think its a nothing story.

Asked a Blackpool fan I know…

I must admit I hope Jerry Yates doesn't leave as he is our most popular player. He is totally committed, works extremely hard and is very capable. Unfortunately he didn't score his usual amount of goals and was often substitute but he was a very important player and popular with players and supporters. We lost our most creative midfielders to serious injuries and our forwards suffered accordingly. I have great expectations of him this season and we would be mad to let him go.
I wish Ipswich well as the leagues are becoming stronger and many teams have good chance of promotion. Hope you have good start .Good luck.

Issues relating to Bersant Celina's UK work permit scuppered the Kosovo international's proposed loan move to Stoke City, TWTD understands, however, a switch to the Blues wouldn’t be similarly affected.

As reported earlier, Celina’s switch to the Potters, a loan with a view to a permanent deal, has broken down having come close to completion with the 25-year-old’s work permit situation having caused the collapse.

If Celina were to join the Championship club - or any other British side - he would be required to apply for a new work permit, however, we understand the forward wouldn’t qualify, presumably due to his lack of Kosovo action over the last year having asked to be left out of the squad on a number of occasions in order to play for Town during international weeks.

The situation with a return to Portman Road would be different as it would be a continuation of the existing work permit which allowed him to play for the Blues last season on loan from parent club Dijon.

While that puts other UK clubs out of the running, that doesn’t mean Celina couldn’t join sides elsewhere in the world.

Town have been in talks with Celina regarding his return to Portman Road for a third spell for much of the summer with the player understood to be keen on the switch but with no agreement yet reached.

Turkish clubs, including Antalyaspor and Kasımpaşa, have also been in talks. Earlier in the summer Preston were keen but their interest is understood to have cooled and would now be impacted by the work permit issue.

Dijon remain in French Ligue 2 and need Celina, who has another two years left on his contract, off their wage bill for the season ahead with the one-time Swansea man not having joined them for the start of pre-season.

Celina spent last season on loan at Town having previously been with the Blues during 2017/18 while a Manchester City player and is very much a fans' favourite at Portman Road.

I've always liked him but agree with most people's thoughts about him not being consistent, I also believe a player with his skills would be needed in the Championship.
