Very bad news for Derby County.

Post by Charnwood » Fri Jun 10, 2022 7:12 pm

US businessman Chris Kirchner has failed to meet a deadline to prove he has the funds to complete the takeover of Derby County,

I’ve no idea what happens next for this once great football club which may or may not be one of our League 1 opponents next season.

I’m not sure exactly what happens if Derby go bust and are unable to continue operating next season ?

Once great is correct, Charny. I have little sympathy as they have been run into the ground by poor management and overspending. Just shows that money does not buy you happiness...

If I'm honest I don't care. Tried to buy promotion, back fired, even Rooney's deal was dodgy. Just 44 games next season then.....hopefully

Yes, agree on the Rooney being their manager “farce”.
Very well documented financial “bottom falling out of their monetary arse” situation……. and they hire £65K a week pubic hair head Rooney?
Made no sense.

Hand on heart, DO NOT want any football club dying, but if it takes one big club like Derby County to “properly” die to get the f**king point across that you CANNOT SPEND WHAT YOU DO NOT HAVE…… then so be it. About fkn time.

Properly in inverted commas to denote the exact meaning of the word dying…….. ie, liquidated. Like Glasgow Rangers FC. Defunct. NO MORE.

Sevco Derby?

They currently have just five first team players on their books, does not include goalkeepers or defenders.

And yet oddschecker puts them as third favourite for the league one title - guess who’s the favourite?

Ha ha well they’ve got a chance, same as all the teams. Love the pre-season when anything can happen and dreams remained unsullied.

Talking of FGR, looks like the away day will be interesting. They are the world’s first eco-sustainable football club. The squad eat a vegan diet and the stadium is powered by solar panels. Even the pies are vegan!

I suspect it’s us or Sheffield Wednesday ?

I think this seasons Play Off runners up Wycombe will fade away, but one thing for sure automatic promotion won’t come easy and I expect next season will be equally as competitive and as difficult as the last.

I just hope and pray next season will be our last at this level. 🤞

Yeah us atm - probably more a curse than a blessing really. But there you go: 11/2 if you fancy a flutter…

I think McK will have or is studying every one of our opponents and the way they play home and away and devising a game plan for each. I expect him to succeed - he’ll have the players, the fans and the backing. But we’ve been here before of course…

The two new signings being added height and physicality - something we’ve lacked against tough sides like Rotherham and stubborn sides like Cambridge. He’s obviously seen a weakness and looked to fix it. Now for a set piece specialist (dare we hope for Twine) and a left-sided wingback to match Burns…

I’d be surprised if you’re wrong. Twine could go championship or maybe higher. But you never know…

don't know who this Twine kid is but guess someone's just stringing us along.

Keeping it short there's little to no chance Derby will cease to exist, seen the scenario a dozen times before : a substantial or recognized team in peril, lo and behold in no time at all it's all fine and dandy and carry on as you were.

Some loon or collection of, put as down as promotion favorites once again ? Have these "individuals" ever been to Portman Road or taken in a Town game ? These odds or envisions are absurd, whether you're inclined to agree or disagree that idea is going to hit way off the mark. Puts additional pressure on the squad in trying to meet a target they''re unlikely to achieve.

The question is why ?

Some local businessman has apparently bought the stadium and made a loan to the club ( admittedly I’ve seen that on twtd ) but there might be something in it !

Suspect he feels his reputation is good after the job he did last year and without a decent squad they will struggle and that won’t be good for his career. He can aim higher now than fighting in league one

To be fair to him I thought Rooney did a pretty decent job there under difficult circumstances. I can definitely see him getting another managerial opportunity whilst the future of Derby County still looks far from rosy which is a shame given their fabulous facilities at Pride Park.

Just like those of us at Town who experienced the Bobby Robson era and enjoyed the barmy nights at Portman Road when the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona & Inter Milan all came to town and couldn’t beat us. Derby had the Brian Clough years at the Baseball Ground and will be hurting like hell finding themselves in League One through no fault of the fans, simply poor management.

Absolutely right. Until a "big" club goes under nothing will ever be done to bring football back to financial reality. Everyone deserves to make a living but the money paid to players/managers is beyond ridiculous nowadays. Transfer fees are just plain stupid. Even when we get back to the promised land I really hope we keep some semblance of sanity!

The only way a football club will go bust is when the FA & UEFA introduce strict financial controls over acceptable levels of debt.

Over the past two seasons only four Premier League clubs have actually made a profit and they are Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United & Norwich City, and Chelsea only because Abramovich doesn’t charge interest on their huge debt. The rest all run at a loss stacking up huge levels of debt with previously mentioned Chelsea topping the pile at $1.8bn followed by Spurs $838m, Manchester United €562m and Brighton & Hove at $340m.

Unless the Premier League or EFL introduce some controls on clubs acceptable levels of debt nothing is going to change especially now some of the top clubs are foreign state owned and don’t rely on traditional bank borrowing.

Seems Derby will be strong, they are signing Connor Houraine - excellent signing at this level, also in for James Chester.

Hopefully they will take time to ‘gel’.

It could take several seasons for them to make it back to second league status. Any one of their own fanbase who imagine they'll make an instant return is going to be disappointed and then some. The whole issue of last season and the hardships they endured should effect them for some time to come and feel they're just not equipped to make it back any time soon.

Putting Rooney as team coach was bizarre from the start, still can't understand the thinking behind it. Moving from the Baseball Ground in 1997 or whenever it was was maybe necessary but the "new" stadium they got just doesn't hold the same appeal in terms of an archetypal design or feel. Opposing teams were really made to battle. Same with Southampton, almost an exact similar in example.
