The future v the past?
Town to field Ndaba, Harper, Humphreys etc?
Colchester - Chambo, Judge, Skuse, Sears
Here’s to the future!

Depending on who is available this would be the line-up I'd like to see:
Hladkey
Leigh
Burges
Ndaba
KVY
Edwards
Humpreys
Harper
TJJ
Aluko
Jackson
Tried to show the positions on the pitch, hopefully it comes out right! Same 3-4-2-1 we usually play.
I'd ideally then sub off Aluko for Hughes and Harper for Ball after 45-60mins.

Blimey , that’s a complete team change isn’t it shabba. I get why, ( I mean when would the peripheral players get a chance. otherwise ?) just not sure McK would change the whole team ….

Yeah it is, other than Burges who played the last game.
I just feel lets rest some legs, especially the likes of Burns, and get some minutes into those pushing for places. Maybe FA cup is different but I want us to be sharp for the MK game.
No harm in bringing Ladapo and some others on for 30mins at the end too in order to grab a goal and stay sharp.
We have a deep squad, lets use it and keep everyone sharp and ready.

What a familiar read '" Emyr Hughes misses out with an Ankle injury" f*ck me what a bloody sicknote that guy is.

Apparently the foul that resulted in that injury was a horrendous tackle ….” Folded the ankle in half” …. It might well be his last injury in football .

I’d love to see Jackson and JJ as a two young front but I doubt that’ll happen .shabba wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 11:53 amYeah it is, other than Burges who played the last game.

I think they will both play, but with TJJ in one of the 10 roles as I think that is more his position, either as a 10 or on the left of a front 3. (think Diaz role at liverpool)

Not in iFollow, that really sucks - further devalues the competition IMO

Re: EFLC - Ipswich Town vs Colchester United Matchday Thread
It's the League Cup though ? Got to be worth an attempt when we've never won it or not even a Final appearance. Just hidden behind one of another horseshit sponsorship deals, that at first glance makes you question why anyone would want to be part of it or mistaken for a lesser competition.
SImple this, if we lose it'll be because McKenna and the team fielded just won't have shown enough interest to progress. It's something of a straightforward tie, opportunity is there to win and face a next round but need to question how much do the team really want it.
Saves applying same logic to FA Cup when it rolls round in January. It's the League or nothing for just about everyone at the club, cup competition shall go by the wayside. Defeat tomorrow, disappointed maybe, but in no way surprising.

A very big night for Colchester manager Wayne Brown who began his playing career at Ipswich Town almost 30 years ago and made 40 first team appearances after progressing through the clubs Academy. Welcome back and have a great night, but not too great.

Oh dear. Their first shot on target and it’s a goal. 0–1 Colchester. I guess we know what comes next which will make it very difficult for us.

Listening on iFollow and it sounds as one sided as you get. Humpreys had a couple of good chances.
Our bench is very strong so let’s see how it goes for the first 10-15 of the second half.

That was a lovely lay on there by Harper, could be their next signing.
We need someone who can put all the attempts in the net, possession and passes with no end result.

Re: EFLC - Ipswich Town vs Colchester United Matchday Thread
Firstly, some context...
It was our second 11
We gave them the goal - pure and simple
Then the reality...
We missed 2 or 3 clear cut chances from 6 yards
Col U played classic 'park the bus' and we just let them do it. There was no way round for us against 10 players behind the ball. That is something we will get a lot this season so we need to find a way and tonight, we were found wanting. I sincerely hope that McKenna and the squad watch that back and work on ways to break such situations down as we had no answers tonight.
Aluko seemed slow - maybe doing it all and being captain is too much for him to carry alone? Humphreys was poor, Harper was dreadful and Edwards is a fraction of the player we saw when he first arrived here. Jackson is not the answer and the rest were at best, average. Woolfy looked OK. What concerned me most was that we seemed unable to attack with pace from our box to theirs - we just allowed them to get 10 players behind the ball and then we ran into that wall and lost the ball, over and over.
So - a poor night but should be a wake up call and some real practice against what we will face again. The fringe players are OK when added into the first team one at a time but not in large numbers. Tonight we were very poor and we need to learn from it but lets not get too down on ourselves. A win on saturday and all this is forgotten. I just hope we do learn and not repeat history all over again.

3 open goals missed and several other chances, they crossed the half way line 3 times and yet we lose. Harper joke from start to finish. Until we cut out individual errors we'll achieve nothing.

Re: EFLC - Ipswich Town vs Colchester United Matchday Thread
Definitely should have scored first as BlueMike said, several good chances. A different game after we gave it away, we were clueless to break them down.
Jackson isn’t the answer - I don’t think we have an answer up front in all honesty - but if we play him we have to put your back over the top for him to find on to. So many players making runs but the ball never went quickly enough. A lack of vision I’m afraid.
No end product from Edwards (as usual). Humphries gets on the ball well but every pass is oh so safe.
Most notable is that every chance came from balls played low into the box. We are still lacking anyone who is going to score with a header - or even get their head on a ball. Consequently many corners are played low or short.

I’m ambivalent because on the one hand I hate the Carabo Cup, but really…can’t even beat Colchester!
