I’m not sure I will. Just curious how others feel. I’ve supported ITFC since the 70s, but I’m tired of league one. Not being negative, I’m just seriously gonna give up if we don’t get promoted this season.

Personally I couldn't ever stop actively supporting Ipswich!
That said, a few seasons ago I became more disinterested in football in general.
There was a time where the football ITFC played was depressing, where the atmosphere was becoming toxic and my priorities changed as a result! Getting down to PR is no longer my top priority, if it clashes with modern jive dances, and that still applies to this day.

A true fan is there no matter what, in my opinion you never give up on your team.

A salient point and one which holds a certain conviction. It's not just this damn division we don't want to be in but a number of factors fans could entertain such as no derby win/s over Norwich in 10 years or more, no progress beyond Round Five of the F.A. Cup since 1993, not being able to participate in the very highest league for 20 years now, not to mention the considerable damage done by recent and former managers and "other club personnel" in the latter time stated. Those are just a handful of primary example.

if we fail promotion this season, it won't be pretty and a awful lot of the fanbase are going to be dstraught such is the start made, but it's ideally a potential situation we have to accept. Would I abandon it all and give up on future team endeavors, quick answer has to be no.

Saying that am old enough to recall the halcyon days of 40 - 45 years back although it works both ways in that while it was undoubtably a time of great celebration and event, it's not going to occur again in this lifetime and doubtless many others. If you wish to give up on the club name it could have something to do with age perspective, you know, the kids of today would stick with whatever occurs between here and May and accept it. They don't possess the experience of some others, the fatigue / disenchantment of underachievement and missing out, that kind of thing.

This a wind up, 9? (Cue McEnroe....., You cannot be serious?)

You got to stick with the team through the rough & the smooth, man.

And......., does it REALLY get any better anyway? Look @ The Sevco Rangers here in Scotland. Officially the worst club in Champions League history. No games won, minus 20 goal difference......, but they'll still pump Hibs next time. You just got to stick with it. The further up Ipswich go, no doubt the pumpings will happen, Nott'm Forest style, but it's the team close to the heart so you got to stay with them.

Is it "Bracknell Town" that is causing this feeling? Because that is a feckin scary name, psychologically. Although its a cup game, makes you think, "holy shoot, ITFC, don't go any lower than this."

I hope its a wind up, No9 is very passionate about Town. So I'm not buying for one second he'd call it a day.

Just a different take .... but i dont think League One is that bad. In fact, I enjoy the matches more than I did the last few years of the Championship. We need to get out of it because that's the obvious plan and the owners aren't going to throw money our way if we stick where we are - but League One throws up a lot of different challenges that makes it interesting. Ok - the refereeing is sh*t, but we've had some pretty good entertainment. We're getting crowds of nearly 30k - so they're not waiting till were promoted. It feels as good as it's been for a long while - whatever division we’re in. 20 years in the Championship had become miserable and so that would have been the time to say goodbye to itfc.

If we don't get promoted this year- then we go again next year. Every chance we go up - but every chance we miss out in the play-offs. The owners see 30k crowds and 11k sale of our third strip so they're not going anywhere soon and are continuing making plans off the pitch. Just 'enjoy' it.... even though its a roller-coaster.

There were times during the last few years of the Evans ownership where I lost interest in what was happening in terms of results. Still went to the games but the enthusiasm wasn’t there. However, I still actively supported the club although I often questioned why.
As for being in League 1, yes I want us to get out of this league asap but if we don’t while I can I will continue to go to games. I look at it this way, whatever team you support you always want them to do better. Even Man City and their fans still haven’t got the one thing that they want, a Champions League title.
Coming out of the Valley on Saturday I was really pissed off and I haven’t felt that way over a result for years. Having a few days to get over it I realise that as they say “we’ve got our Ipswich back” and it feels good to care again although no doubt that will still lead to disappointment along the way.

My Dad took me to see my first ITFC game in 1959 when I was 2 years old. That's been my life - football-wise - ever since, even when I lived for a few years in the Bahamas (no internet then, so came back 3 or 4 times during a season just to see a game), and will still be the case when I eventually retire to the Philippines (though with ifollow I should get to see every game).

Sure, there have been times when I have lost a bit of interest, mainly over the last 10 years - but watching and supporting the club is all I've ever known. At least I've had the privilege of being there through the glory days.

So I will support the club no matter what until the day I die - it's not about being a so-called 'true fan', it's just that I could never contemplate trying to follow another club.

I’ve a Town die hard fan since 1969, and the only time in that period where I’d lost the will to live and continue to support the club was in McCarthy’s last season. I’d had enough of his dross and had he been with us the following season, that would have it gif me until he did finally leave.

So I won, he’s gone and I’m still living the dream 👍

I see it like this, I’ll always support town but the level of my interest and investment will change depending on various factors. Right now I’m so impressed with everything that I will invest more of my time and money as a result, I’ll watch all the iFollow games and get to more live matches.

When things were bad then I’ll vote with my interest/pocket, and likely resort to fantasy world of football manager to scratch my desire for town to do well!

Also I’m actually very much enjoying league one as we’re far more likely to win most weeks than if in the leagues above! It’s nice to see us dominate most games. Also the Prem is a bit over commercialised.

I mostly echo this sentiment. I’m someone who first went to Portman Road in the late 70s and was lucky enough to see the great Robson team in the flesh. My family moved away from Suffolk when I was 11 years old. I grew up in Oxford, then lived for long spells in Brighton and London. And a few years ago my work as an English teacher took me to Vietnam. There has never been any question of following another team (although I was moved by Brighton’s metamorphosis from near extinction to the premier league) but my engagement has waxed and waned over the years.

I know it’s maybe a controversial thing to say but right now might be the perfect time to follow the town because there’s so much potential and hope for the future. Happy days!

I for one feel very confident we will get promoted ,be it automatically or play offs.in the play offs we will have a far better team than the opposition .technically skilful and more fitter .plus no team will be parking the bus..so that means any team up against us knows they will have to play ball..and we love playing ball against opposition that leaves spaces .so yes we will go up ..and don't think otherwise

To be honest No9 anyone who’s travelled on Town’s journey so far from the Premier League to League 1, will have already given up long before Gamechanger and Kieron McKenna came along.

Probably a slightly weird & random post this one, and bit more extreme that my other post in this thread....... But Yep, will always follow Ipswich Town........ Second BUT; at the end of the day, it really doesn't f**king matter in the slightest........, it's only a sport and there are so many more things and situations in life that are way further up the league table of "mattering!"

If it doesn't happen, fk it, ..... bring on even more satnav challenges next season.

Exactly, I don't think many realise WW3 has actually f**king started and that is probably the one thing that will stop us going up.

I think you Marko know better than anyone that in the grand scheme of things Football really isn't important so we may as well just enjoy the bloody season and what will be will be, as it is we are going up though lol.

Thanks for all the comments on this thread. It certainly was not a wind up alas, I was in the doldrums that day when I posted it…family issues etc. Many of you have changed my mind, and no matter what happens this season…I’ll still be logging on to vent my anger & to torture you all with my crass sense of humour. Supporting ITFC is not a life or death situation, but over the years it’s been a great escape from life’s trials & tribulations. With that said, we better get fuckin promoted ffs!

Hey Marco I have been through Ipswich City if you can call it that on my way to Toowoomba around 40 years ago it was a lot smaller Town then  but back to supporting a club, I will say supporting the Jags is undoubtedly like a mixed bag of sweets you never know what your going to get their full of surprises, can beat the best on their day and lose to sh*t teams but I love em, also down my golf club Littlestone GC a guy called Jim Cannon used to play for the jags(poor sod) and moved down to London and played for Palace (Crystal ), not Buckingham  but what a great guy he is has told me a few tales over a few pints lovely guy
