Re: World Cup 2022?!
....and out go Brazil!
So the question is do you have your top guy take the first penalty (Neymar in this instance, but who, the goal apart, had a poor game). Personally for me every time. Score your first penaly and it's less pressure on those following, but also keeps more pressure on your opponents.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
Getting nervous. Getting visions of being reminded by those south of Berwick-Upon-Tweed every 5 minutes who the World Champions are until 2026.
JEEEEEZO! Wasn't going to go find my sons old French textbooks, but I think I will now.
"la France doit gagner"
Was always going to be something stupid to knock Brazil out. Their goal was beautiful, nice passing, nice finish......, Croatia's goal, a wicked deflection. They were always going to need that luck v Brazil.
But yep, Neymar should definitely be first up to take penalty. Massive mistake. They'll be devastated.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
This afternoon’s result has certainly made the Quarters, Semi’s and Final far more open and interesting than it would have been with Brazil still in. Although Morocco could win this is very unlikely but them apart any one of the other 6 could realistically win this.
I can honestly say I can’t remember a World Cup that’s been more Open.
Come on England, you will not get a better opportunity to win it than this.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
Fantastic interview with Jordan Henderson there at the Ned v Arg HT break. Bobbly head aside......, he seems a very nice young lad......, very well spoken and switched on. Breath of fresh air in the game.

That Dutch free kick to equalise was as cheeky as they come. They must've worked on that because no one saw it coming.

Shame I missed that Marko, I’ll take a look later to see if I can find it. I was however given a copy of his recently published autobiography this morning so I’ll start that over the weekend.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
What a fantastic start to the Quarter Finals, two fixtures and two penalty shoot outs. I know my opinion is very different to a lot of you guys but I think this World Cup is as good as it gets and when it’s over I’m definitely going to miss it.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
I'll second that Andy, most of what I have seen has been really enjoyable, and even games which have lacked excitement have come to life, either late on, in extra time or penalties. There have been no end of shocks and at one time it looked like South America would not be represented in the last four.
Total credit to the Argentinian fans who have travelled en-masse to this world cup and have created a wall of noise. Great to see.

They showed something similar on MOTD coverage last night, in which the Argentinians scored against England in much the same waymarko69 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 12:01 amAzzurroMark wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 10:16 pmThat Dutch free kick to equalise was as cheeky as they come. Re: World Cup 2022?!
I know what you mean Liz, for me it all goes back to the Antonio Rattin incident in 1966 when Sir Alf made his famous playing against “animals” comment.
This said you have to admire their fabulous fans following, I think last night the stadium was 90% Argentina and 10% Dutch.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
Apparently there are more than 50,000 Argentina fans in Qatar with almost 6000 of them banned from entering any stadium due to them belonging to violent football fan organisations in their homeland. Maybe great fans whilst they’re winning but could turn nasty if or when they lose.

Looking forward to a feast of footie today. First up Town v Posh, second game undecided, maybe Plymouth maybe Portugal and finish with England v France. Saturdays don’t get much better than this.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
Best England friendly that I have been too was the game against Argentina in Geneva in 2005. When Owen scored the winner in the last minute (3-2 England) the scenes in our end were unbelievable. I was in a aisle seat and ended up several rows further down from where I was supposed to be. Remember ending up hugging several fans and after the final whistle asking them what club side did they support. They replied “Norwich”.
Often saw them at England aways after that and we always had a laugh about it as well as loads of banter. Good times!

Re: World Cup 2022?!
It's been a fabulous WC in spite of being held in the wrong country at the wrong time of year.
Two fantastic quarter finals yesterday. Pleased to see Brazil go out as I personally think South American teams are vastly over-rated. And the Dutch equaliser was pure genius.
England are never going to get a better chance to win it - the game against France is a tough one but I fancy us to do it.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
So potentially an England/France v Portugal semifinal...and Argentina v Croatia. Have to admit, that's tasty! Very unpredictable WC so far...does that mean England will win???
I better make that waxing appointment after all.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
Getting too old for this sh*t now. Can't stand penalty deciders and yesterday was no different. Was on the verge of losing all interest in the f**king thing but Brazil go by the wayside and Argentines pull through. How did Netherlands get back that deficit so late in regular time, it's something immaterial now but for a time, anxiety levels were something sky high.
Just need a rest from this now, it's a damn distraction from more important aspects. I want the thing over with as soon as able, there's more tangible objectives out there.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
Potentially England or France v Morocco in the second Semi Final based on the first half of the QF which Morocco lead Portugal 1-0.

You need to have a small generator delivered, Saint. Hook your fridge up to it, then switch the power off to the house at the board. No TV, no radio. Go to bed and read a Maradona autobiography using a fully charged LED torch, (or Flashlight for you!)
