FA CUP (R2) - Ipswich Town vs Buxton FC Preview & Matchday Thread
Ipswich Town v Buxton FC
FA Cup 2nd Round
Sunday 27th November 2022 – 17:00
Portman Road
Pre-Match Thoughts - Mike
Well that is our interest in another One of the cups over for another year, Tuesday's lame defeat at the hands of Portsmouth was very disappointing to say the least as once again Town dominate much of the match only to succumb to a sucker punch from our visitors. Failings at both ends of the pitch going some way to deciding the final outcome, in front of goal we again fail to make the most of the chances/openings we carve out while at the back it was the same old story, defenders who basically can't defend and who continue to be the gift that keeps on giving.
It's not nice to single out individuals as we win as a team and lose as a team but my god I have to say George Edmundson really is turning into a bit of a liability as he struggles to suit the playing out from the back game that kieran McKenna insists upon, even to the point of us continuously playing ourselves into trouble, Real Madrid we ain't so we need to be a little bit wiser with regard to when we play this passing game, Edmundson can't do it, Burgess hasn't really had the chance to show if he can or can't yet, Woolfenden thinks he is Franz Beckenbaur at it when sadly he looks more like Douglas Bader at times, while Walton and Hladky in goal just don't look overly confident with it at times.
I'm not going to lie, I was not overly impressed with McKenna's post match comments, especially after all the talk after the last round and in the build up to this game was along the lines of how we wanted it and how a trip to Wembley would be great for the club etc, in fairness his team selection backed that up but let's not be accepting of a defeat and sound pleased about it, if that is the case then state as much prior to kick off, we can then all stay home and save our time and money.
Of course the biggest downer on Tuesday was the potentially serious injury picked up by Marcus Harness, at the time of writing we are still awaiting news as to the severity of it but at first sight it looked bad, in true Town tradition it is not likely to be a week or Two, more like a month or Two, or worse. With Dom Ball, Lee Evans, sone Aluko & TJJ all out fairly long term it was the last thing we needed, especially as for me Harness is a pivotal player for us who scores and creates goals, he will be a big loss should he be out for any period of time.
it's not all doom and gloom on the injury front though, Greg Leigh & Gassan Ahadme are now back and available while Panutche camara is also fit and playing, while Janoi Donacien, Leif Davis and Conor Chaplin are all ok having picked up minor knocks in recent days. Our squad is being tested so the upcoming January window could well see us more active than we might have otherwise been.
Sunday see's us in more Cup action, this time we welcome Buxton in the second round of the FA Cup at the odd time of 5pm, in truth this should be little more than a formality, much like Bracknell Town was although I do envisage an even more inexperienced team taking to the field on this occasion with the likes of Zanda Siziba, Albie Armin & Edwin Agbaje all getting game time, others like Hladky, Keogh, Camara, Jackson all look set to start. Either way I cannot see beyond a comfortable Town win and a place in the Third Round where we will be hoping for a big lucrative home draw, or failing that Norwich. COYB'S

Why even include a voting option in the above, the outcome of this is something academic. Can't remember a game involving us where you knew the result before it were played. All right the last non-league opponents last round providing a scare of sorts but the result by end was never in that much doubt.
Don't want no glamour tie at some EPL heavyweights in the Third Round (draw). We won't get past it so keep future opponents minimal and we just maneuver past each round as you find it. Kind of depends (how far we go) on how much McKenna and the players really want it.
ITFC 5 Buxtons 0

Saint Peter Parker…….. someone has voted Buxton. Can only be a Buxton supporter. No one is THAT negative on this board.
Reckon it “should” be a piece of toffee game….. but biggest game for Buxton in years so they’ll be putting their spanners, electrical testing equipment & postbags aside for the afternoon and taking it very seriously.
Going for 3-0……… and 2 goals between 75th & 90th minute as they tire.

Player: “Well ref? , what you pointing to? Goal-kick? Corner? Penalty?”
Ref: “Just waiting on a decision thru my earpiece….. gives a few seconds.”

Yeah saw the same thing when (after) replying a day or two back. They've got the opponents from the last round in the preview. Wouldn't want to face them a second time particularly after any first-half concerns.
Someone voted for an opposition win ? Chalk me off, didn't vote at all as mentioned no need to. Some 'individual' attempting to inject some humor / light relief into proceedings. Mind you they said the Titanic were unsinkable, that the four minute mile would never be achieved etc. Guess all things are possible out there but you got to take a certain rationality in a game / event of this nature. We'll win, they won't, nothing more.

Re: FA CUP (R2) - Ipswich Town vs Buxton FC Preview & Matchday Thread
FA Cup related, but not Ips v Bux related……
Ebbsfleet on ITV today…….. visited Stonebridge Road way back in 96 while working in the Dartford area for British Gas. They were called Gravesend & Northfleet back then…… and they won 3-0 that day v Sittingbourne.
Great laugh in the bar afterwards with “The Fleet” lads …… made 6 drunk Scottish arseholes very welcome!
I say 6, maybe 5……. Brian the hashhead spent the day melted in his hotel room.
Great seeing Stonebridge Road again on TV.
And Grant Holt in commentary! …… ex Hibs legend!

Derby getting played off the pitch at Newport County, no room for complacency in the FA Cup. Hopefully we can get a decent first half lead and give the young guns some game time.

For anyone interested I’ve found 4 Channels I can watch todays game on and just checked they all work on my tv.
SportTV4PT
Astro Sports 1
Ziggo Sport Voetball NL
Diema Sport BG
Hopefully those of you unable to get to the game will be able to access the match on at least one of these Channels. The first two most likely with English commentary.
Just checked since posting, it appears only Astro Sports has English commentary.

That's a really strong line up, Buxton must be pissed off seeing Edmundson and Woolfenden on the bench.

Re: FA CUP (R2) - Ipswich Town vs Buxton FC Preview & Matchday Thread
If this team can’t comfortably see Buxton off we should all lower our expectations of automatic promotion. Given our complete dominance of this game so far all we need is a little more action in the final third of the pitch and some clinical finishing.

Why play Walton for a game of this nature. Think it's just to get back confidence in the kid against what should be straight-to-sword opponents. Keep waiting for Hayes to make that elusive start but somehow it's not going to happen.
It's something like 20 - 25 minutes in there and no score as yet. Maybe a slight concern we haven't got a goal with that time played and the caliber of opponents but these games have to be played. Strong starting squad, it can only be a matter of time before we get ahead really.
McKenna seems to be playing only one in attack, damn stupid against the level of opposition (and) with a home advantage. Absurd, but in no way surprising.
Ladpao not on the field or subs list at all. Guess on the minor injury roster or something. Or just omitted from today, either which.

it's 2 - 0 now.
Yes we are two goals ahead of today's opponents. Chaplin got the first and second were, is, Ahadme it seems.
Time to relax a bit now, we're getting the lead you kind of envisaged. We're playing well actually, should think so too with the line-up presented.

I gave up with Astro Sports, the picture kept freezing. I’m watching on SportTV4 with foreign commentary, the picture is brilliant but not particularly smooth.
