Re: John Motson - RIP
He certainly made no secret of his affection for our football club and was a shareholder. He would occasionally be seen at the Playford Road training ground and in the Directors Box at Portman Road. I believe he was also a friend of Sir Bobby.
He was certainly the most memorable commentator of my generation although strangely he didn’t comment on the 78 Cup Final when we won against Arsenal.
RIP John Motson, you really were the best and condolences to your family and closest friends.

Re: John Motson - RIP
Was a shame to learn of this news. Motson was an embodiment of fine impartial commentary and the industry is poorer today with his passing. Not sure he had any illness as such but nobody lives forever. Endured a half-century involvement with the British Broadcasting Corporation which encompassed 10 World Cup events and 30 F.A. Cup Finals before only stepping away from duties as recently as four years back.
It's a pity, you can feel tangible sadness maybe but what a career he had, far from a wasted life. Best to the immediate family and loved ones, you can't dispute any OBE bestowment wasn't rightfully awarded.

Link to the BBC news regarding Motty, but posting so that it can be scrolled down to watch the Clough interview. I am sure we've all seen it before. But it' would've been interesting if Cloughie had been around for VAR. His views would've been very entertaining.

I'd love to see him talk about VAR. I've been as guilty as anyone of criticising referees, but it's a bloody difficult job they do. As fans, of course, we see all the errors the referee makes that go against our team and tend to ignore the ones that go the other way. It's a thankless job and I think Cloughie was right on the money with his comments in that interview.marko69 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 7:49 pmhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64742833
