Barnsley Away & International Call Ups

Post by Bluemike » Sun Mar 12, 2023 9:30 am

Looks like there is a chance we could call this off, Morsy, Burns, Broadhead and Leigh all in line for International call ups, if Three are called up we have the option to get the game moved, would be a no brainer for me.

Certainly both Morsy & Broadhead are critical to our team, but Burns too is starting to show better form (from what I've read). We cannot afford to go to Oakwell anything other than at full strength!
It's no coincidence the upturn in fortunes now the January signings have bedded in, Broadhead in particular. He is a definite upgrade on Harness, who in truth has not lived up to the billing (which I certainly gave him at the start of the season).

Agreed, I think the Three of them are important to us now, Burns has had a rough ride off most of us this season but like yesterday and the stunning goal against Plymouth he does show flashes of brilliance. Not forgetting the Two he set up against FGR recently, definitely playing better. To be honest I wouldn't want to go into any game without Morsy alone.

Be just our luck that only 2 get called up and Morsy is one of them. As already been said if 3 are called then definitely call it off.

I find it disappointing we'll reschedule, but its probably the right thing. If we beat shrewsbury we're still on a roll and if we cancel the game will probably be put back to the last week in April. Will that be 8 games in April? Prefer to face Barnsley now when we have our dander up.
If we lost only Burns ( and Leigh)..... id play the game. Think we can replace Burns, but not Morsy and Broadhead.

International breaks effects on domestic fixtures

Post by hallamblue » Tue Mar 14, 2023 1:34 pm

I see we are about to lose 2/3 players to these international fixtures.

Personally I think this couldn’t come at a worse time to our brilliant run of firm in league one. Historically we are bloody pants in the fixture immediately after one of these internationals, and we can ill afford to break the winning rhythm we have finally now achieved.

What do others feel about these international games( friendlies?)

Hmm, I actually think this might be a blessing........if we can get the game put back then *maybe* Barnsley will have a dip in form and we can play them during that, rather than this current hot streak they are on. Longshot but you never know :D

From a selfish point of view I’m happy as away that week. Obviously not good news for those that have already booked trains.

It's not good but trains can be cancelled with full refund.

If the game had gone ahead it would've been a pressure cooker type game. Now if played on 25tg April this game will be an absolute couldron of a match. Barnsley will probably have levelled up with us on games played and with just 2 games remaining afterwards, if there's a winner at Oakwell it could be the big difference between automatic or play offs.
Probably the biggest game for a number of seasons?

There are numerous scenario's, that being one of them alternatively it could be we are still in the hunt for automatic promotion while Barnsley are resigned to the play offs and saving themselves a bit which plays into our hands. So many permutations to consider. With the players we would have had missing I am 100% happy its been moved, let's not forget Barnsley are in cracking form right now too, not just us.

That’s literally the only spare date left in the season. We’re playing 2 games a week throughout April , and it’s unlikely to be after the final game if the season v Fleetwood.

Hope not, as I'd rather watch on i-follow and if Sky cover it will rule that avenue out.

TBH I’m just happy to watch it on whatever channel covers it. Like Sky or not their coverage is way superior to ifollow in fact it’s like comparing Premier League to League Two.

Ifollow also has the nasty knack of missing a key moment, buffering or losing sound. It’s certainly better than we’ve ever had before but so inferior to Sky or even BT Sports.

The penny has just dropped that I'll be away in Norway when this game is played now! So will not be able to watch it whatever way it is shown!

From first hand experience you’ll be very lucky to have enough internet speed on a cruise ship to watch footie unless you’re in a very expensive luxury cabin. More chance of watching on Sky Sports but can’t imagine many guests on board wound be happy watching Barnsley v Ipswich. For some reason I think your wife will be the happy one.
