League Calculator / Promotion Discussion
Hey
This is awesome - its from TWTD
https://www.twtd.co.uk/league-calculator/?step=2&lge=3
You can select the teams you want (i.e top 4) and then input the results you'd expect from their remaining fixtures and it gives you a final standings league table.
Very cool! To me it does show they others seem to have a slightly easier run-in on paper though.

Re: League Calculator
There is little awesome about TWTD and while these prediction things offer some interesting insight it's not above conjecture and what if's all told. Best guess we play out the remaining fixtures and challengers also and I think we'll just let everything fall as it may.
The Play-off Final for League One was announced (incidentally) an hour or two back as Monday May 29, 3pm start.
There's every chance we'll be featured for that event. Hell forbid we only make the semi-final two game and eliminated at that stage but you got to further optimisms more than that. Automatic promotion is so finely balanced right now it's probably 50/50 we'll actually achieve it.

Re: League Calculator
Just for fun I thought I'd give it a go.....mind you my attempts at the prediction league are often laughable!
Team Pld W D L F A W D L F A Pts GD
Sheffield Wednesday 46 15 7 1 45 15 14 6 3 30 14 100 46
Plymouth Argyle 46 20 2 1 44 14 10 7 6 35 30 99 35
Ipswich Town 46 16 6 1 53 13 12 8 3 39 24 98 55
Barnsley 46 16 3 4 47 23 12 7 4 32 14 94 42
Missing out by a single point but with a top 4 all breaking the 90 point barrier.

Re: League Calculator
Sheffield 104
Ipswich 96
Plymouth 96
Barnsley 94
Town up on goal difference, but I have to say that was with a tinge of optimism. Predictors like that only show what 'should' happen with the teams current forms, but in reality a lot more surprises are chucked up, we just have to hope those go in our favour and we stay in form. Bookies have it pretty much 50/50 and I guess my predictions turned out just as tight.

This is a better one, I think, don't need to put scores in. Re: League Calculator
As we all know from some of our Prediction League scores it’s very difficult to predict results with any accuracy and the ones that look straightforward are the ones most likely to get wrong.
This can still go in any direction as it only needs the slightest loss of confidence, sheer bad luck of officials errors and the unexpected can so easily happen and most likely will in the most unlikely games too.
This is far from over and May we’ll go to the wire.

Mine had SW on 99, us and Barnsley on 98 (us 2nd on GD of course), Plymouth down in 4th and Peterborough and Portsmouth sneaking into the playoffs. I am an eternal optimist of course but with this current form, why not?

Re: League Calculator
Gave it a go and completed the exercise. Just instinctively gave each score as saw fit, you don't give it another moments thought as then an element of doubt can creep in and screw up the objective.
Bottom line, we didn't make the top two automatic places. Finished one point behind in third place.
Plymouth came fourth two points further back. One final time guess it's just best to allow events on the field to dictate and settle affairs.
Sheffield Wednesday 46 16 6 1 48 15 13 6 4 31 20 99 44
Barnsley 46 18 1 4 46 20 12 7 4 33 19 98 40
Ipswich Town 46 16 6 1 50 14 12 7 4 41 26 97 51
Plymouth Argyle 46 21 1 1 49 14 7 10 6 35 35 95 35

Re: League Calculator
Like I’ve said before and what we learn from the Prediction League every week it’s the most unlikely games where teams come unstuck. Like Arsenal losing to Everton, Liverpool losing to Bournemouth and then thrashing Manchester United 7-0.
Whatever we think what happens will be very different and probably unexpected.

Re: League Calculator / Promotion Discussion
Well the latest supercomputer has 3 teams all finishing on 94 points with just GD to separate them.

I like one of the later paragraphs which states that the company who do this analysis "has form" for their predictions! Well if you can change your original prediction from Derby to win the title, to a new outcome with only 6 games to go, I don't think it takes too much to gain form!
