correct - my mistake - I meant Coventry and not Lutonshabba wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 8:47 amMaybe the above reads wrong, Luton didn't play Boro........
I personally still feel there is a jump which is bigger than many town fans think, none of these players we have were doing that well in the championship. I think we can be mid table, maybe more depending on signings.

He does indeed look to have the potential to be a good player, but from what I saw in the 2 play-off games his conversion rate was terrible - had quite a few attempts on goal, converted none of them.
Much as I like Ladapo and Hirst, I don't think they have the required conversion rate either - we've got be be looking at a minimum goal in every 4 attempts - so I would not be surprised if firepower is high on the shopping list.

It's certainly going to be an interesting and exciting next few weeks for sure, so far Ashton and Mckenna have really done the business where targets and signings are concerned, if we get it right again it could be another very exciting season that lies ahead.

We didn’t play our full first 11 either !shabba wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 10:32 amIt was vs a Rotheram with very poor morale, and vs a Burnley B side. If you read things that way you could say colchester fans will comment 'well we beat this so called best league 1 ever side'.....
Very different playing a whole season etc. I just don't know what the evidence is to suggest we will make easy work of the championship. I don't think we will struggle but we need to be realistic.

His conversation rate last season was 23.60%, putting him the 83rd percentile for the league. Top scover Akpom was at an impressive 35%!rossi wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 12:57 pmHe does indeed look to have the potential to be a good player, but from what I saw in the 2 play-off games his conversion rate was terrible - had quite a few attempts on goal, converted none of them.

Chaplin was 28% and Ladapo was 24%.

Luton were last top league in 1992 or something. Same year we under Lyall came up as Champions from the old Second League. Must have passed each other on the way, don't remember too many league meetings with them in the time since although may be incorrect. They put together a strong team from say 1985 - 90 that were on the verge of honors and indeed won the League Cup of all things. I kind of wish them well.
Coventry been away since early 2000's, they deserve to make it back. Any place that can deliver The Specials is all fine with me. As an aside and leagues below you got Notts County who now get to play professional level who last featured alongside Luton at the very top level back around '92.
It's a shame teams like Oldham Athletic haven't matched these feats and remain in the obscure depths of non-league. These fans deserve better.

Ha ha great point.
Championship playoffs then. Jethro Tull v The Specials (No contest IMO)
As for L1 playoffs, Sheffield has an embarrassing array of musical talent to bring. But I quite like an 80s metal square off: Saxon (Barnsley) v Def Leppard (shef)

Think we need to find out the diet of Biff Byford. He looks better now than he did in the 80s. Googled and was expecting a decrepit old git….., but looking fit & well, Biff.

Right, back on topic, play off finals weekend has arrived and I'm rooting for Luton/Barnsley/Carlisle wins. £200 win treble.

Re: Championship Play Off Race !
They take place this weekend if correct. Took a moment to weigh up opponents involved in all three divisions and couldn't find no bad word to say against any one team. They all worked hard and deserve a promotion, some have been away from higher league for considerable time.
Often you get a team involved in games of this nature where you realize straight away you want one to win and f*ck the other - there's a clear preference or devoid of impartiality - but this time around you just got six teams / club names where you kind of root for all. Pity is, someone has to miss out.
There's maybe 180 million resting on the outcome of the Championship game for the winners. Luton Town have got ideas of a new stadium, Kenilworth Road is no longer EPL standard or outdated by some reports. I got no real preference who wins from them and Coventry, both teams have been away since time of Keaton and Lloyd regards the highest level. It's a real shame someone has to lose or miss out.

I was like that after seeing the Who at Dunstable Civic, probably around 1970 I think they were the loudest band in the world at the time. School the next day and couldn’t hear a thing.Mauswara wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 1:26 amI remember seeing The Clash one Sunday night in Ipswich in the late '70s.hallamblue wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 11:41 amI saw Saxon live in Ipswich years ago , along with Motörhead ….. Metallica, “… and Justice for All” tour, late 1988…, (first tour after Cliff Burton died) ——->> thought i’d actually never hear properly again. That gig was unusually loud.
Come on, Coventry.

My bet would be Luton, Sheffield Wednesday and Stockport County but I’ll be surprised if we don’t have extra time in at least one of the finals as the teams are all closely matched.

Luton are a team of giants and I think just as Sunderland did Coventry will find them too big and too powerful.

Luton finish 10 points ahead of Coventry in the league yet could possibly lose on the farce of a penalty shoot out.
Edit: Luton are promoted. I’m so pleased for them but I’m more pleased be use it’ll put out the noses of the entitled, PL, billy bollox clubs. They’ll bloody hate going to Kennilworth Road ( I did lol )

Someone on twtd said it was 9 years which if true I’d remarkable isn’t it.
I remember them being docked something like 30 points which sent them into a spiral to oblivion. Have no idea what it was for or what they did wrong.

Re: Championship Play Off Race !
Four, five minutes I won't get back but that was no way to decide such a pivotal contest. Nine months of work, effort and hope condensed into one penalty contest. Hopes and ambition resting on a lottery of five takers apiece. Can't they find some alternative to settle these things.
Remarkable Luton haven't been involved at top league since 1992. Whether you were for them today or against, got to admit they waited long enough to make it back. It's a shame the victory wasn't more clear cut or won in regular time but neutrals would have had their fill.
Got sympathy for the beaten opponents. One trophy win in 120 plus years and Adolf Hitler very nearly succeeding in obliterating you from the map, the fans deserve better. Say again (for such an instrumental game) it wasn't really fair the manner in which to be beaten.
