Your list isn’t dissimilar to one I started a week or so ago. I’d definitely try to sign George Hirst and there could be an option to buy in his loan agreement although I’ve not read this anywhere. I guess his availability could also hinge on whether or not Leicester can survive relegation from the Premiership. If they are relegated I’d suggest they may want to keep him. I would also like to see Massimo Luongo signed too as he and Morsy make an awesome central midfield partnership.
I’d not be surprised to see Richard Keogh stay and join Towns coaching staff.
The rest of your list pretty much mirrors my own thoughts although there are a couple of names there where I don’t know enough about the players potential to make a judgement.

Haha I wanted to do a similar thread but felt I’d let the dust settle before such a post.

If and when I get time I’ll do a post where it’s split into positions, contract length etc.

The hard part will be that some players (Piggott etc) will be on decent money, and likely other clubs won’t pay those wages even if taking them on a free transfer.

Anyway a deep analysis of the squad is well worth a discussion, part of me also hoped Ashton won’t go into overdrive and sign a 10 new players. I’d like to see 4 decent signings this summer rather than a total rebuild.
I think this current squad is good enough for mid table - but we certainly will need more if we want to push the play offs. I think many are underestimating the size of the step up.

Agree with all of that apart from Ball who at 27 years old could still improve and has 90 Championship games for QPR and El Mizouni who's improved and thought well of by Orient and could be worth keeping.

I should of mentioned it only applies to fringe players and those out on loan. 🫣
The first team squad really speaks for itself and they won't be going anywhere.

Yeah, I would be interested to see how a fully fit Ball goes for us next season to.

Yep thats why I put unsure on Ball, he will probably stay. To be honest El Mizouni will have zero chance of game time if all the others stay, not to mention a few new arrivals which there will most definitely be, I can only see him moving on.

Obviously the Hirst situation depends on what Leicester want to do and may be decided by what division they are playing in next season. Also, wages may be a factor with him as well. You would think that Luongo will be offered a contract although if KM feels there is a better option out there then it would not surprise me if we went for it. Still think we might go back in for Taylor from Posh as if reports are to be believed, KM seemed very keen on him.
Certainly CB area will need some reinforcements as I feel we are short of cover there. I would not be surprised to see Edmundson moved on and it would be a big ask for Baggott to return and step up to Championship level. Probably another loan spell will be good for him. Have a feeling that Humphreys may go out on loan as well if it looks like he won’t get much game time with us next season.
I can’t see us having a major overall of playing staff but would not be surprised if we sign 3 or 4 players, some of which we will probably say “I didn’t see that one coming”.

Ok here we go.......

Name - Contract end - Verdict

GK

Walton - June 2024 - Keep
Hladkey - June 2024 - Keep (if he wants to stay)
Hayes - June 2023 - keep as 3rd choice

Coleman - June 2023 - release

Def

Wooflie - June 2024 - keep
Burges - June 2024 - keep
Edmundson - June 2025 - keep
Ndaba - June 2024 - transfer list

JD -June 2024 - Keep
Davis - June 2025 - keep
Leigh - June 2024 - keep
Clarke - June 2026 - keep

KVY - June 2023 - release
Keogh - June 2023 - release
Penny - June 2023 - release

Mid

Morsy - June 2024 - keep
Ball - June 2024 - Keep
Loungo - June 2023 - keep (1 more year)
Camara - June 2024 - keep
Humphreys - June 2026 - keep (loan out)
El Miz - June 2024 - keep (loan out)

Evans - June 2024 - transfer list
Haprer - June 2024 - transfer list

ATT

Edwards - June 2024 - keep
Burns - June 2025 - keep
Chaplin - June 2024 - keep
Broadhead - June 2026 - keep

Jackson - June 2024 - transfer list
Harness - June 2025 - transfer list
Aluko - June 2023 - release
TJJ - loan - send back

ST

Hirst - loan - possibly sign
Ladapo - June 2025 - keep (as backup)

Piggot - June 2024 - transfer list
Ahadme - June 2025 - Keep - (loan out)

So I make that 25 players in contract to 2024 and beyond, so we will need to sell/loan players to clear some space, I think Gk's and youngsters don't count towards the squad limit though.

I'd like to think this is what the squad looks like next season:

1st team

Walton
Clarke, *new CB*, Woolfie, Davis
Morsy, *new CM*
*new RW*, Chaplin, Broadhead
*new ST/Hirst*

Backup:

Hladkey
JD, Burges, Edmundson, Leigh
Camara/Lungo, Ball
Burns, *new loan number 10*, Edwards
Ladapo

I know its liekly controversal but I think we might upgrade Burns, if we can get a top RW, and look to get a young talent on loan as a backup for Chaplin. I love Burges but wonder if thats another position to upgrade, I'd also feel it's harsh on Luongo but we may go for a top CM (likely Jack Taylor, or ideally better).
Hirst may be kept if we can do a deal otherwise I'd fully expect a marque striker signing.

I feel if we sign too many more it'll disrupt the team sprit/harmony. We then have a season to settle in the champ, and see who can make the grade as so many are out of contract in the summer of 2024.

Sorry if this is a right mess of a post!

It looks like we have several players with only a year left on there contracts, so unless we have an option for another year we need to give them new contracts.

Give them £500 a week wage rise, bonus’s for goal scoring & clean sheets, and a car.

Works on manager 98 for the PS1 👍

Likely many would have an extra years option held by the club.
They club will want to see how they do in the champ though, I’d be surprised if more than half the XI is the XI that gets us to the prem.

Who we release will I suspect be largely dependent upon who we want to bring in. Where the Club feels we need a better caliber of player. There’s quite a lot of natural wastage likely to happen which will free up money but not so much squad spaces as the natural wastage is largely out on loan and won’t be coming back. I’d say the most at risk of the current squad are those players that rarely get on the bench or pitch .

Saw a Youtube post where someone had run ours and Plymouths current squads through next season in The Championship on FIFA.

Not exactly scientific but we finished in 13th and Plymouth got relegated.

If you do read anything into this sort of thing it does imply that with a bit of well thought out recruitment over the summer we may be able to look forward to a good 2023/24!!

I'd expect that to be the case in real life, also Plymouth may struggle as they have more loans than us I think.

I think we can be a mid table team as it is now, but we will certainly need 3-4 additions to even think about the play-offs.

I suspect the existing contracts were all geared to finding out which League we would be playing in to avoid over or under paying players as both situations have the potential to create problems.

As it stands out very best starting line up
Including bench wound probably be good enough to finish mid table baring any significant injuries. However I don’t expect Gamechanger to be happy with that therefore we need to be ready to accept a few changes but hopefully not too many to unbalance the equilibrium.

Plymouth have a rebuild on the cards?

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/plymout ... erein/2262

Lots of out of contract players/loans going back. I guess some may re-sign now though, but its interesting all the same.

I think I'm going to add Donacien and Camara to my original list, to be sold. I would put Jackson in as well but KMck seems to really like him.

JD will stay, Clarke is first choice and he is an excellent backup, who is settled, can cover many positions etc. You'd find it hard to replace that, not many want to come in and play backup.

Camara is tricky, KM needs to see him, would be harsh to move him on without giving him a chance - maybe loan him for 6-12 months and see how he does, then either sell or bring into the squad.

I think the management will look to keep the easy wins so to say, and then they can focus on moving out the 'must go''s' like Piggott and look at bringing in quality to the starting XI.

Keogh. Released - as above
Piggott. Sold- agree
Penny. Released - agree
Harper. Sold - agree
Mizouni. Sold - keep
Hirst. Released (maybe buy?) - primary target buy

I can see Camara being in the squad and a good MF for us .

I would potentially add following to list of potential exits
Ball
Jackson
Donacian
Edmundson

Add
Luongo
Hirst
CBx 2
Rt back x1
Start Looking for Morsy replacement: he ring last forever and is pivotal for us.

Did you mean “his ring wont last forever”, Hallam?

Just enquiring why? Is he partial to a few vindaloos a week?

Yes I think those four potential exits you identified may move on.

Luongo definitely keep. And Sami's got some gas left in the tank.

Interesting - saw a post from a local newspaper In Portsmouth about Piggott - it said Ipswich have said they don’t want to keep him.

Many pompy fans were commenting that they hope they can keep him! Apparently he was much better under the most recent manager.

I think Piggott is a skilful, player. Sometimes players just don’t get going at a club, and do better when they move on or are in a different system.

Ok so this is where we are at now based on players primary positions and those in the building now:

1st team:

Walton

Clarke, Burges, Woolfie, Davis

Morsy, Taylor

Burns, Chaplin, Broadhead

Hirst

2nd team:

Hladky

JD, Edmundson, *space* , Leigh

Ball, Luongo

Hutchinson, Harness, Edwards

Ladapo

Backups:

GK: Slicker, Hays (set for loan)
Def: Baggott (set for loan)
CM: Evans, Humpreys
AM: Jackson, Aluko

So for me we still need a CB. I suspect Evans and Jackson could be suprlus now, Hayes will go on loan - but we might bring in a utlity attacker.

I do still make it 26 players though if we discount Hayes and Baggot (loans) - some if we sign anyone then a couple must go out.
