Don’t know specially what the injuries are , but thought I’d heard Achilles for Clarke ( he had this end of last season apparently).

Broadhead looks like he got that in the Luton game. Looks like a quads tear . Depending on how severe, it could be anywhere between a week for a dead leg to a couple of weeks if a small fibre tear to 6weeks if a big fibre tear. Latter is Not good.

Clarke’s injury could (is?) rumbling on … coukd go either way …. From a Beckham boot to rest it to an operation, and weeks out. Hopefully he’s doing some strengthening right now.

Humphries will be protocol led re head injury. He’s the one I’m least concerned about tbh.

Haven’t a clue re the others .

Worrying as it’s four starters possibly out for the first games.

Right now, the core of the team is healthy. You could argue Walton is part of that core, but Hladky is a decent back up. Yes Broadhead will be missed, but we’re stacked in midfield. I’d be more concerned if we lose Hirst or Chaplin or dare I say Morsy. I think we’ll get something out of the game.

I’ll be honest with you, I’ve never really rated Hldaky that much. He’s not very tall for a keeper, which makes him vulnerable in penalty area ariel attacks, and having just in front of him, ( to my way of thinking anyway), a less than convincing CB pairing (with regards to dealing with crosses into our box), we could potentially be under a lot of pressure in these early games with all these in injuries. Here’s hoping they clear up soon 🤞

It sounds like Luongo and Broadhead have a chance of making Sunday so it's one game at worst they could miss with any luck.

There was a suggestion on twtd that Walton’s injury and ongoing monitoring by the Club (for 6 matches) kinda coincides with the window shutting … a deterrent for would be suitors maybe?

Well there is a video o TownTV analysing the keepers, it is dated 31st July and Walton looks absolutely fine in it, unless it was filmed some time ago it makes no sense.

Yes, that's my view the CB's always appeared less confident when Hladky was behind them and they seemed more prone to mistakes and/or lapses in concentration. Maybe Hldaky doesn't communicate with them in the same way Walton does? If that is/was the case hopefully the coaches have worked on that with him.

I'm happy with Hladky, I'd rather be without Walton than I would Luongo or Broadhead.

👊 Harry Clarke is back in full training and will be available for selection after serving his one-game suspension this weekend.

I don't know Mike, I just think the back line seems more nervy without Walton. I can't back that up with facts it's just a feeling from the games I've watched.....

I still think we'll be good enough to beat Sunderland though!

Possibly but I see it differently tbh, Walton had a real rocky spell at times first half of last season, potentially the defence was affected by him ? That said we have Two more than capable keepers and Hladky will be hell bent on keeping the Jersey which could work in our favour. Either way we'll all be 100% behind whoever starts.

Not sure how the hell he’s picked up a PF tear for gods sake!! I wonder if he’s had a steroid injection for pain relief? That’ll cause a fascia rupture … so I’d be surprised if they have given him an injection.

I agree. He commands the box better than anyone we’ve had recently. Without him I think we will struggle with high balls into the box.

It is what it is, everyone else is virtually fit which is good, its not just us, Sunderland have a fair few injuries, all teams will at some point. Onwards and upwards

In general, goal keepers don’t win or lose games. Yes occasionally they’ll make a stupid error or a fantastic save, but we’re not talking about Gordon Banks. I agree Hladky will be chomping at the bit and I sort of felt like Walton needed a rest anyway. I could be wrong, but under our current management/coaching team I think we’ll be ok.

Too bad about Walton, guess at least he'll be able to stay at home and join in with goodnight to everyone.

Wouldn't say Vaclav is better or more reliable than the other, both names are or have been prone to error but I wouldn't want either out the club / team set-up. Hayes is somewhere loaned out which is no surprise and the new kid that came in just seems deputy to the two foremost names. Guess he'll get an improved chance to start now our #1 is on an injury roster but how many appearances he could or will make is open to question.

Yep, think so too and he’s no mug really. Not a bad 2nd choice keeper at all.

From that link Dazzza posted above.
Quote:
“He’s not going to make it for the weekend,” he said. “Small groin strain on top of some other issues in and around that area that he has. Possible for Cardiff, but not available for tomorrow.”
End quote.

Care to elaborate further, boss? Itchy balls? Septic boil on his helmet?

Apparently Walton is “ ahead of schedule” re his foot injury.

Sorry but this SO predictable. One week left of the transfer window….. and he’s injury which was going to “ be months”, suddenly sorts out, ha ha ha yer right!

Problem for Walton now will be getting his #1 shirt back!

I’m happy with him too although I prefer Christian Walton if I’m honest. I think Hladky is out of contract at the end of the season so unless we’re happy to see him leave on a free we should be extending his current deal sometime soon.

Current Contract to 30 June 2024 - Salary £330k

I’m more concerned about Clark’s Achilles injury . This could rumble in all season.

Any smart money in Williams debut tomorrow?
