International Week

Post by Blue Wilf » Wed Sep 06, 2023 9:22 am

...have to say I just hate them. Much preferred it when they had them on a Wednesday night amongst the rest of the seasons fixtures. Its not like the new format has made England any better at winning stuff is it! 🤷🏻‍♂️ ho hum...

Same here and always have, it's nothing more than an annoying interference to my weekend and enjoyment, so in a nutshell f**k *ff England.

Didn’t mind them when I used to follow England away and would visit places that I would never have dreamed of going too.
Now they are just a PITA.

I concur, and the thing I hate most is that the timing is just as the leagues get interesting. Prem is 4 games in, Championship 5 games, stories, form, relationships are all starting to emerge and get juicy and then boom, down come the shutters and there's a break to disrupt all that. If the season was 12-15 games old, I wouldn't mind so much I don't think.

The only thing I'm interested in is our players coming back fit 🙏

What if the domestic matches continued minus the International players? I know it sounds crazy, but it would add unpredictability & excitement to the leagues. I hate the enforced pause on the season, so said players can play for their countries. Just a topic for discussion I know it won’t change.

What you got to realize is these games have got to be played off. Yeah, they're an obstruction and probably at least half of all times, immaterial, however even p*ss-ant nations deserve a right to participate or a chance of something.

Think if we were still outside top two leagues we'd probably have a game i.e. Leagues One and Two go ahead as they are. You can't have domestics all year round, it's not feasible. Players we got involved run the risk of picking up injury in respective games although not entirely sure of who will be involved and how many will be taking part of the squad we now possess.

Edit Glasgow isn't such a bad place. It's improved without question in the 21st century from (previous) no-go zones and issues from times past.

Glasgow is a shithole. Not in Dundees league right enough.

To be honest, after recent trip to Sweden & Denmark, ——>> the UK is a shithole.

A) some teams would have literally no players, even their U21's would be heavily depleated during these breaks

B) Players who know they aren't likely to play would then withdraw from squads and you create a big issue for the national sides with that

I personally don't see the big issue, its nice to have a little break, give the players who aren't called up a bit of time to both rest but also get to know their new team mates, settle in the area for new signings, see family, work on tactics training etc.

Off subject but I see we have a behind closed door game against West Ham this afternoon, no cameras though.

Where did you see that about Burns ?

What an absolute crock of sh*te the England match was, complete and utter dross, and to think we cancel all football for that.

Shame they couldn't show the same level of endeavour as the recently much maligned England Rugby Union side did against Argentina! When they went down to 14 men very early on you had to fear the worst against what is usually a very handy side. What followed was a pretty scintillating gritty display.

Burns Misses Latvia Trip Due to Injury
Sunday, 10th Sep 2023 11:18
Blues wideman Wes Burns has been ruled out of Wales’ Euro 2024 qualifier with Latvia in Riga due to injury.

Burns was due to join the rest of the squad, including Town teammate Nathan Broadhead, in travelling to Riga this afternoon but the Welsh FA have tweeted that the 28-year-old and keeper Wayne Hennessey won’t be making the trip.

The former Fleetwood man, whose injury issue isn't specified, picked up his fifth full cap as a sub in Thursday’s 0-0 friendly draw with South Korea in Cardiff. Broadhead made his first international start and also won his fifth cap.

With Burns injury, I think ( and dare I say this), hope we see a right sided combination of Williams ( replacing the ongoing injured Clark) and Hutch. These two worked SO effectively when they came on in the second half of our last game. Id like to see them get a run of games together down that right side. I don’t think they’d disappoint.

No marko, have retired from following England away. Know quite a few who are making the trip up there though. Will seem strange not being at Hampden but decided after the last Euro’s that it was time to call it a day due to health reasons and also the idiot element that was starting to surface more amongst the away following.
Tbh thought I would miss it more than I have, had some great times and trips and made many friends during the 20 years of doing it and more often than not the worst part of the trip was the 90 minutes of football.

Part in bold describes the life of a Hibs fan beautifully.

Thats a shame that its the end of an era for you but no doubt at all, you’ll have a catalogue of memories. 👌👍

And you’re right, whether its international or domestic, the idiot element is on the rise for sure. Not quite at what video evidence suggests the 70’s were like, but still a lot of unsavouriness smattered around stadiums these days. Not worth the cash spent for a trip away.

I see Sam Morsy has been omitted from the latest Egypt squad for their friendlies, selfish I know but thank god for that, their loss is very much our gain.

I couldn't help feeling the same. Made me wonder what kind of a midfield Egypt have.

Yes they must be damn good, the more Sam is omitted the less likely it is we will lose him for weeks for the African Cup of nations, that would be a disaster.
