McKenna - Manager of the Month

Post by Bluemike » Fri Oct 13, 2023 8:05 am

Town boss Kieran McKenna has been named the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for September.

McKenna fought off opposition from former Town skipper and coach Tony Mowbray, now with Sunderland, ex-Blues loanee Liam Rosenior and Erol Bulut of Cardiff City to claim the gong.

“It’s nice recognition for everyone at the club for a strong start to the season,” McKenna said.

“When anyone wins Manager of the Month, it’s really a reflection of the team and the team's reflection of many people doing so well at the football club, including, of course, the supporters for their role in that. We hope to build on this and keep progressing.”

McKenna previously won the League One Manager of the Month awards in March and April, while the last time a Town boss carried off the Championship gong was Mick McCarthy in November 2015, the former Ireland boss also having won it in September 2014.

The only other time a Blues manager has claimed the award was Joe Royle in November 2004.

No Curses please !!!!

Very much deserved, I feel a few of these on the way over the coming Months.

McKenna should have been manager of the season for League One last time out but if such an award exists they would likely hand it over to whoever oversees things at Plymouth.

If McCarthy picked up those accolades in which he did seems strange others around that time, predecessors and those directly after, Jewell, Hurst or Lambert etc, didn't warrant or obtain a similar recognition. One season aside, McCarthy seemed no better than the majority we endured when said names were involved. He did however, provide small winning runs that gave us a chance to challenge but they in retrospect appear too few and far between. Guess that's where the awards stem from.

Royle should have been given the vote more times than just one for 2004/05. Before McKenna came in that were the last season I truly enjoyed play here and with it (the) hope and expectation the club could achieve something once again.

Well that's another load of rumours quashed as Rangers have appointed another no mark as their new manager.
