According To Others We Will Meet Our Match Soon

Post by Shed on tour » Wed Dec 13, 2023 8:15 pm

I often like to have a read on other Championship clubs forums just to see if they have any particular thoughts on us.
The one thing that often seems to get mentioned is we will meet our match when we meet the top sides. Having taken a look at the current table, so far out of the current top 12 before tonight’s games, Leicester is the only team we haven’t played. Our record so far against teams in the current top 12 is won 8 and Lost 2. We have also beaten 4 of those sides away from home.
Hopefully everybody will continue to write us off and we can continue to defy the odds.

Codswallop (have always wanted to say that). Even if we do "meet our match", if we manage the same form in the second half of the season, then we can lose all 4 games to them two and still finish in the automatics.

We've played 21, Leeds have played 21, they have 41 pts, we have 51, that doesn't happen by accident, and I always thought points gained over a season showed the better team, not the head to head.

Yes Town may end up dropping in to the playoffs, but any talk that they don't deserve to be there, or that they aren't as good as the other teams up there is codswallop!

Codswallop:

1920s (in old sense ‘overly talkative woman, gossip’): probably an alteration of cod walloper ‘person who deals in or handles fish’, also ‘foolish person’. The current sense was popularized and possibly coined by British writers Alan Simpson and Ray Galton in the comedy series Hancock's Half Hour in the late 1950s.

The most common comment I see from other teams fans (usually after we’ve beaten them) is ‘very good side, you can see why they are where they are’.

Many also say we are the best sides they have faced, Watford fans also said we were better than saints who were time wasting etc

Obviously we must be looking at different forums.

Probably Shed! The half dozen or so that I've looked at have all been very complimentary towards Ipswich, which is quite odd when your team is getting beaten by them. Same goes for comments on highlight videos for example, but obviously as you've found out, I'm sure there's plenty out there that are grumbling/jealous/critical too, they're probably negative towards everyone though if that's the case??

Suspect people like us becuase we aren't splashing tons of cash, aren't a known bad fanbase or have any dodgy history etc.

Town is an easy club to like at the moment.

We will meet our match soon 🤔 looks like we will be drawn against Manchester City in the next round of the FA Cup then.

Teams that don't like us have the sentiment for probable tangible reasons. Norwich apart, you got like Bristol City and Shrewsbury for instance where we took some of their most high-profile club personnel and it left some area of animosity. Others have a distaste because we played a game once, there were injuries to opposition players where some of our names went in too hard and caused damage, but the latter is indeed few and far between but it occurred all the same.

Title doesn't seem to fit, who's our match anyhow and who are the specific others in question. All you can attest to is that we're involved in an amazing transformation that makes two / three years back seem like night and day. It others don't like it that's just too bad. Maybe emphasize to these people that after 22 years away from the top league and not much else in the meantime, we deserve something back.

You have to be a fan of this team to truly understand it but if anyone looking on has had their head in their as* or simply fails to recognize it, we've far had to wait long enough and endure so much sh*t and adversity the past 18 / 20 years that finally the time is now to enjoy what's going on at the club and relish in the change of fortune. Not as if we've had billions injected into the club and brought in players others can't afford or reach, we've simply been beneficiaries of a very good manager, astute CEO's and ownership. Brought in players that have proved effective and done what's required of them. Not sure what else you can add to the issue, but meeting a match and jealousy, really it's not a factor or something that need concern us.
