So sad to hear that Franz Beckenbauer has died, one of the absolute greats of our game and one of only three men who lifted the World Cup as both a player and a manager.

RIP you true legend.🌹

Der Kaiser. The word legend is often used now, he certainly was one.

The term icons of the game seem overused but Beckenbauer filled that category and then some. One of the most gifted and dependable figures in a sweeper role or played out of defense / defensive midfield. Took an average West German team in the 1980's to the verge of victory before by 1990 the team was then strong enough and the right blend to rightly be labeled (and become) World Champions.

Legend figure at Bayern Munich, as with Gerd Muller, enough great Teutonic name that was taken too soon. How much would Beckenbauer be worth in today's market at the pinnacle of his abilities. Tough to put a price on it but here you got a playing figure that were immense, ruled an area of the field to such competence and ability that others quite couldn't match. Respect to Mr Beckenbauer and the families involved.
